Huckabee is a welcome relief

He's boring because his producer isn't doing a good job. Segments go on far too long. Guests drone on after they have nothing more to say. Call screening seems pretty weak as well... but Cumulus isn't known for paying decent wages to producers / screeners,

I thought he works for CC syndication. He still is on a bunch of Cumulus stations but there was a clause in his Citadel contract that if Citadel changed hands he was "released". I thought I even heard one of Rush's sounders the other day.

3-6 pm....I got nothin'. :(

I agree with the opening two posts here, and with stereolane's nod toward Phil Valentine [hello, jry].
Hanity's "success" has always baffled me – 'maybe getting a WSB gig while young is synonymous with having a "killer IRA" when one gets older! I just don't "get it" concernng his professional rise. He constantly interrupts callers and guests, and plagiarizes ideas and on-air shticks from other hosts without an ounce of credit – he HASN'T an original idea. He's as "plastic" as an empty 2-liter of 99-cent soda!
Unless I get the urge to laugh at the constantly-recycled circumstances of a former Bengals cheerleader having inappropriate relations with a kid/jock in high school, I usually abandon the radio and enjoy tunes via my modern media at 3PM!

The one thing that cracks me up is his laugh.
Remember back in the 70's and early 80's the jocks used to laugh on the air. It was part of their on air schtick.
Ha ha ha, you've got Q 98, and we're having a great time.... THAT kind of fake laugh.... Hannity still uses it.

Pat Buchanan uses the same laugh.

Probably has something to do with that nighttime TV show that gets about 2 million viewers a night...

You mean that everyone that calls in is a "Great American"?? You mean that Bill Cunningham didn't take that from Sean?? ::)

I am surprised that more stations haven't picked up Phil.
A couple of years ago, Cumulus had signaled that they were going to ditch non Cumulus programming to
clear Phil.

All three major cable news networks (I simply cannot bring myself to count HLN) have abysmal money demo numbers. At least 70 percent of the Hannity audience on a typical night is above the age of 55. CNN probably skews even older.

Odd. The latest figures i saw showed that the aging baby boomer was the demo to go after. More apt to have 2 homes, extra toys. Lots of disposable income. Second only to 25 to 54 demo, a close second.
NBC killed Harrys Law, not because of numbers but due to the age of the audience.

Speaking of Huckabee.......we don't hear him in Cincinnati anymore. Did 'DJO discontinue it?

Hannity's voice gets on my nerves. How did he ever get a gig with that "Charlie Brown's Parents" voice? Patronizing to black people? How about patronizing to country music fans? Seriously, do you really believe that a guy from BROOKLYN sports a cowboy hat, and puts on a pair of s**t kickers? ROFL!!!! Or, mellows out to the awful pablum that is CCM artist Michael W. Smith? Please... ::)

What is it with the mention of CCM Music and Michael W Smith for. what does CCM and Michael W Smith have to do with Hannity's voice and your problem with it. if find the use of CCM and Michael W Smith in your response very indigenous towards that Genre of music and one of its top artists of all time in the format

Why isn't he allowed to express his distaste for CCM? Is it a genre that's somehow above reproach?

Thank you.

Here it is again, one more time: I find it hard to believe that Hannity, an Irish guy from Brooklyn, is a FAN of either country music, or CCM artist Michael W. Smith. Sorry, it just doesn't add up, and smacks of pandering to his audience. Back in the '80's, we would have referred to Hannity as a "Poser" ::)

Hopefully, Huckabee will improve, but frankly, Phil Valentine is far and above Huckabee in every way.

I agree, stereolane...

I am NOT an "accredited" or rated Talk Radio host, but am no dummy when it comes to recognition of "talent" in that regard. It boggles my mind that Hanity has achieved his current gig [from humble Huntsville, Alabama] and retained it. Quite simply: he has VERY-LITTLE ability for that broadcast genre – unless one considers a hosts' propensity to constantly-interrupt his guests as a criteria. He does-so incisively and it is degrading to those "with a mind" who *try* to listen. He even does it with guests [except Dick Morris]. I can't stand to listen to his self-aggrandizing and patronizing banter and self-promotion, and I'm CENTER-RIGHT on the political scale.

The clutter injected by those who stand to profit from his "show" make it more-impossible to listen to.

IF I were to be called to manage a Talk-formatted station, I would DELAY his weekday banter to 9-midnight – following Savage [in "real time"], and air Phil Valentine or a LOCALLY-ORIENTED host from 3-6PM. I like Valentine, but regret that he is so poorly distributed. To commit a station's vital PM drive to his otherwise FINE PROGRAM would require an extensive promotion and marketing commitment that would fall upon the local station that chose to air his program. I'd rather commit those resources to a LOCAL HOST!

I like Phil. I don't understand why Cumulus didn't go "all in". They never worked hard on "clears".
We've never gotten one call on clearing the show.
Of course, Huckebee is a "name" and they probably have a lot of money tied up in the show. They
had no choice but to push it hard.
