Huge pirate on 101.3

I noticed Big City 101.3 was on several months ago, and last week, it was still on. Their signal goes out 20 miles from Boston! How come they haven't been shut down yet? I don't think I have ever heard a pirate station with a stronger signal.

How much is ERP? How much is the fact that Big City 101.3 is Mono with no stereo pilot or subcarrier on the signal? They do go out farther than most 100watt Class A non-comms. Suprised they have not been shut down yet.

As usual, it does nothing... just like since 106.1 got their NAL, they're still on. I can't believe that 96.5 in Brockton hasn't been visited yet... they must run huge power, and they're selling a lot of commercials.

101.3 is all over the metro. I've heard them CLEARLY from Wellesley to Canton to Weymouth up to Stoneham to Burlington and all interior spots. They're running some serious juice.

Big City 101.3 is awesome. This is radio. Not corporate, manufactured radio, not college radio run by aging Caucasian hippies. This is a station that connects with the community. I was at the Caribbean carnival this summer and saw first hand how Big City 101.3 is in tune with a community that the rest of the radio dial choses to ignore. Radio programmers take notice. You dismiss it because you've neved experienced that following for your own stations.

What makes you think all pirates are run by non-citizens or illegal aliens? Wow, what a stereotype.

All I can tell you is Big City 101.3 has a purpose in this market. It's WFNX that's increasingly irrelevant. After waking up Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name" on my alarm clock radio set to WFNX this morning, I've given up on the station's ability to play alternative rock.

I am not speaking in political terms. The law is the law, regardless of being a conservative or liberal. Pirates are illegal, just as murder and rape are illegal. Just because a pirate radio station never hurt anyone doesn't make it "ok." Prostitution is a "victimless crime" too, but the law takes it very seriously.

By all means then let them connect with the FCC so they can broadcast legally. (Since there are
no open frequencies available in the area, then let them see if they can band together and buy
an existing station. Wasn't WILD considered up for sale? WWZN? Let them broadcast.
