HUGE SWAP AT 3PM QUESTION

I was able to record the launch of Thunder 106 from online stream.
I can send the 10 minute file somewhere like via email (it's an mp3)

I missed The B98.5 radio stream launch, since the stream from Hit 106 went to country
(I was expecting the stream to start streaming B98.5).

I also contacted www.formatchange.com and I'll see if I can send it there.

Thank you very much for this momentus aircheck. As I was say the first song was "Turn On the Radio" by Reba, but I was wrong, the first song has to be "Country Done Come to Town" by John Rich. As he mentioned that "Thunder 106" is now being in other parts of NYC including Manhattan, Staten Island, Long Island and Brooklyn. I hope New York can't wait for this station for the first time in 8 years since they pulled the plug on the quadcast known as "Y107" back in 2002. Great to hear country music back to New York City after an 8-year absence. It's like WYNY and WHN all over again.

Looks like they're giving a shoutout to B's history. Songs played since 3PM include Spice Girls "Wannabe", Crush "Jellyhead", and Le Click "Call Me". All of those were huge when B98.5 originally signed on in 1997.

The Spice Girls "Wannabe" was the very first song played on B-98.5 in 1997 ... and again, today ...

I noticed at the Launch of Thunder 106, at the Top of the hour Station ID, Thunder 106 identified themselves as:
WBBO Bass River Township & WKMK Eatontown.

I guess WBBO calls will soon move to 98.5, and WHTG is no longer at 106.3 (maybe it'll goto 106.5)?
What calls are currently at 98.5?

According to the stream, they have it under WHTG.....wow, smart on Press! First you get rid of the guy who built B, then you decide NOT to place the original call letters?! Forget this station....http://www.967party.com. Let Press get mad at me for posting my station on their pages :p

Does anyone besides us care about the call letters?

And, while I respect Matt Knight a lot, saying he "built B" is a bit of an exaggeration. Matt was responsible for the evolution of B in the early-to-mid 00's, but PD Neil Sullivan and the Nassau CHR braintrust (I remember Mike Kaplan... did Michelle Stevens and Dave McKay have a hand in B too?) built the station back in 1997.

The 10 minute clip includes the 1st song Thunder 106 played, which was Country Done Come to Town by John Rich.

That was probably the most boring format flip I've ever heard... along with the 3 annoying minutes of hearing "Thunder... 106... IS COMING..." ::)

If I hear the VO guy saying "Thunder 106" one more time I probably will flip out! ;D

Slinky,

As I'm sure you know, B98.5 was around for 3 years before I got there and certainly had plenty of people there way before me to launch it from 1997-2000 so you are correct that I didn't "build" B98.5. Neil Sullivan (RIP), Mike Kaplan, Michelle Stevens and many others at Nassau laid the foundation for that station before I was even living in New Jersey, let alone beginning my career in radio. My role at B98.5 was APD/MD, and even that only occurred after the sale from Nassau to Millennium and Mike Kaplan went to Kansas City to PD The Buzz in 2002.

Out of all these conversations, I don't want to leave out that Gregg "Race" Thomas (now PD at The Hawk) was the Program Director of the station and he was definitely an integral part of B98.5's growth into what it was leading into with the "More Music Radio" era.

While I certainly had a decent role in helping to expanding it's brand, I don't want it to sound like I was solely responsible for it or that I'm laying claim to that. We had an amazing staff all around that was responsible for bringing B98.5 to life.

I miss the modern rock leaning B98.5 (More Music More Radio) Era and I wish their signal was stronger to cover areas that Hit 106 did. I'm happy the B's back though. Hit wasn't that great of a name for it anyway. I'm hoping 106.3/106.5 will be broken up and one of the frequencies either 106.3 or 106.5 becomes G Rock then everyone will be happy. I'm just happy they didn't kill off the Top 40 format or the country format. I'm not happy about G Rock even though I did like Hit 106. I liked the Modern Rock B98.5 because it mixed my 2 favorite genres of music together: Alternative & Top 40. If 106.3 or 106.5 returns back to GRock then those 3 stations owned by that company will be my 3 favorite formats: Top 40, Alternative, & Country.

I am only getting right channel audio only on the thunder web stream. left channel barely there. Wonder if they are aware of this.

Hey Matt, so sorry that Press did not realize what they lost when they let you go. When Grock was replaced by hit 106 I was one of the numerous people who was pretty annoyed by that sudden change, took me a probably 6 months to start listening to hit 106 after that and between you and the morning crew I really enjoyed the station. Now im without everything as I live up in Old Bridge and can not get 98.5. Keep us up to date on your next adventure so we can listen to someone who knows what WE, the audience, wants to listen to.

Good Luck.

Just for the record, 98.5 is now WHTG-FM and 106.3 is WKMK ... 106.5 is still WBBO ...
Could be temporary, though if they're planning to swap calls again between 98.5 and 106.5 ...
