HUGH JARRETT

Hugh Jarrett died in Atlanta at 9 30 Saturday morning May 31. He was a member of the Jordanaires for years and thru his career was employed at several radio stations including WLAC in Nashville.

His lovely wife Jean, whom many of you know, has the additional task for burying her grandson tomorrow, Sunday June 1 who was killed in an automobile accident this week.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

I only met Big Hugh Baby one time, but the stories about him can keep a session going for hours. His 'Big Hugh Baby Hop' had all the big names of the times there ---like Ray Charles just to name one.

Hugh worked at WHIN in Gallatin before moving on to Nashville. You can see his big smile in many of the Elvis early movies.

Hugh stopped by WHIN/Kixx 104 when I was there in 79 and I talked to him about his time with Elvis (wish I'd kept that tape) and that was the only time I met him. However, he called me in the news room at WSM back in 2002 when Gaylord was about to change to a sports format and move the Opry to FM. To say Hugh was ticked would be glossing over his feelings.
Seemly no ego,...he was truly one of the old GOOD GUYs that you don't see many of today.

God Bless Jean as she goes through these trying times. I can't imagine.

about his time with Elvis i've heard many tales about those times too buddy..i never got to meet him..little before my time..on the subject of elvis..my next door neighbor for over five years was sonny west..one of elvis' memphis mafia ..i would see him several times a week out in the yard..and say hi..but never thought once about asking about the elvis years..probably should have had him over for burgers and got out the recorder...duhhh ???
