Are you SURE? I knew Hugh and he was(is) a young guy. Please tell details if possible on where a funeral would be, etc. Thanks.

Another radio message board says he was only 30 and he had a heart attack at a hospital after he had surgery.

Here`s definitive word from Hugh`s former co-worker and colleague
Allan Stagg. Neary was Allan`s Socerer`s Apprentice back in the
glory days of Sanctuary on WXCD from 1997 through 2000.

CONCERNING THE PASSING OF HUGH NEARY

I have spoken with Hugh Neary`s sister, Judy, and have, unfortunately,
received confirmation of Hugh`s passing Sunday night.

Judy told me Hugh had gone into a hospital Thursday evening for emergency
surgery due to an infection. He was supposed to come home today (Monday).

Hugh`s mom and Judy had just seen him Sunday evening when they brought
him clothes for his anticipated return home.

From what I can gather, shortly after they left, Hugh got up out of bed
for a trip to the restroom. A blood clot in his leg (the medical staff
was apparently unaware of), thus moved and travelled into his lungs. He
reportedly collapsed and died instantly.

Hugh just celebrated his thirtieth birthday last month.

His obituary will be posted in the Chicago Tribune on Thursday and Friday.

The wake is this Friday from 3-9 pm at:

Andrew J. McGann & Son Funeral Home
10727 South Pulaski Road
Chicago, IL. 60655 (107th & Pulaski)
(773) 783-7700

The funeral leaves Saturday morning at 9:45 am for 10:30 am services at:

Holy Redeemer Church
9525 S. Lawndale Avenue
Evergreen Park, IL. 60805
(708) 425-5354

Please pass along this information to those who would find it useful at
this sad time.

That's just AWFUL. I hope he didn't feel any more pain than he had already endured. Hugh was the guy that relieved me every night at midnight during my brief stay at the Zone. He always had something funny to say...a smart-ass comment about radio and life. I'd often spend an hour just chatting with Hugh in the studio after my shift ended. And, for me, that's something - since I always made a beeline for Pippin's on Rush at 11:59:59.

Hugh was a good guy, and will be missed. Even though he never cracked the mic at WZZN, he was known and loved by many. God bless you, Hugh.

It's a shame when someone that young passes away, especially someone as well-liked as Hugh apparently was (I never knew him, but the responses here show what a good person he was.)

I hope his friends and family are dealing well with their loss.
