Hughes Rudd, CBS Radio, 1972

The favorite rumor I heard as a kid was "Hughes Rudd died on the air." Turned out it was Howard Hughes who died.

Oh my. I am so glad you posted this. It brings back a lot of memories.
As a kid I used to watch Hughes Rudd on the CBS Morning News almost every morning with my dad. I occaisonally watched Captain Kangaroo afterwards.

Honestly, I never recalled Sally Quinn on this show. She must not have lasted long. She was not very good.

Love the look at people like Barry Sarafin, Leslie Stahl, Dan Rahter and Pat Buchanan. Wow.

Sally Quinn had no experience on television when she became co-anchor with Rudd in 1973 on the revamped "The CBS Morning News".

She was 32 at the time. She wrote about her experience at CBS, which lasted less than a year, in her book, We're Going to Make You a Star.

Quinn returned to "The Washington Post" in 1974 and has been there since. She is married to Ben Bradlee, the former executive editor of The Post.
