Huh? Rick & Bubba Huntsville Squabble Effects Nashville?

What time is Rick and Bubba on in Nashville? I don't recall ever hearing them after they left Star 97. And I question the wisdom of taking on a "talk" show that has already been on (and left!) at least two other stations in your market!

I believe their on 1510 from 6 to 10am, maybe wrong though. They started out at 103 kdf, and then switched to 104.5, before going to Star 97, I think they started at 1510am back in May of this year. "Pass the gravy, please"

Just the other morning, They were talking about how their show is getting into some other regions besides the deep south and mid south areas. When I first heard them years ago, I thought, hmnnnn, two guys talking for 4 hours about basically nothing. They were not even talking politics and that sort of thing. Just two guys BSing for two hours about topics many of us talk about at the water coloer. One morning they talked about 1 hour or so about what music they had on their ipods. LOL Another morning they talked about how some neighbors dog was barking all night keeping the entire neighborhood up all night. When you first hear this, one tends to go. What the is this? LOL

What does one tend to go when you've heard R & B more than one time and scream aloud
"What the is this?"

This show on LAC is the lowest point of a NEWS/TALK station I have heard. No wonder
it's about time to flip to Spanish. And Crumulus worries about WSM-AM?

Sort of the Southern radio predecessor to TV's Sienfeld and The Office...?

Does anyone other than me think that it is absolutely ridiculus that Nashville has to import a redneck morning show from Birmingham to fill a morning shift, even on an AM?
Is the talent pool so poor that no one can do 4 hours on WLAC instead of this backwoods dribble from Rick & Bubba?

And does anybody wonder why people are flocking to Ipods, MP3, Sirius and XM. This kind of crappy morning radio has be at the top of the list.

I am a proud graduate of a local high school, plus UT. Grew up in Middle TN and frankly this kind of backwoods humor insults my intelligence. Just think of the people that are really smart.

I was born here and reared here..uughh,,wait..i mean raised here, and they do insult the hell out of my intelligence..no wonder "damn yankees" think we're barefoot and squat outdoors..R&B, John babble and silly..not entertaining or funny..yet..there are people that listen..that's what scares me..that some people do find these guys airworthy and in several markets..the dumbing down of the listner has been going on for a long time...i'm not the sharpest knife in the tool shed, but i doubt that any of these shows would have lasted a week in the 70's..i really believe listners were a lot sharper back then..course we only had two formats..rock, and rinestones...i didn't mention bob and tom, because if you tune out tom and christy..bob and chick are usualy funny,,as well as most of their guests..not all..but most...and as always, my disclaimer.."but what do i know" ???

I was thinking the same thing, TRB. It seems to me that during morning drive on a news/talk station in a major city (and we are a major city, aren't we? ;D), there ought to be enough going on to fill the morning drive time: hard news (national news), local news, sports, traffic, weather (especially if there is any bad weather going on), even farm reports if it is still early enough in the morning, and school lunch menus and bus schedules if there is still enough time left over for that. If that is still not enough, you can add in cancellations if the weather is bad enough, and still have time left over for some celebrity gossip, like whatever Britney is up to this week. ::) I'm sure such a morning show could be heavily sponsored and run up to 40 minutes worth of commercials an hour if they chose to do so, and probably still have time left over to take a call or two from a listener!

I listened to a little bit of R & B on WLAC this morning. It seems to me that if an AM station (even if it is a "heritage" station) is the only one that will give them airtime, then I must only conclude that this represents a "downgrade" for Rick and Bubba if they must regress to an AM station. So if an FM station won't take them, there must be hope for humankind (at least in the Nashville area) after all. So they have (at least locally) been on Citadel, Cumulus, and now Clear Channel stations. (What is it about all broadcasting corporations beginning with the letter "C"? Maybe it's because they are all after the big "C," cash!) I was aware that they were on the "new" 104 the Core and the "new" Star 97 (but overuse of the term "new" in radio is a discussion for another day!), but I was not aware that they were ever on KDF. But of course, you could have easily concluded from my previous messages showing contempt for KDF that I never listened to them anyway!

KDF was Rick & Bubba's first stop in Nashville, right before the big switch to country. Then they went to, Arrow 104.5, after Arrow's demise, they stuck around and did mornings on Groovin Hits " Hot" 104.5. I really liked that Hot 104.5 format, i wished they would of stayed around for awhile

Wasn't that also about the same time that 106.7 also had a similar format? 1999, I think? They, too, didn't stay with it very long.

Yes, Kiss 106.7 was on about the same time as Hot 104.5, very similar format. Magic Jackson (92Q- Star 105.9) and ex wsmv channel 4 newsman Craig Williams did mornings for Kiss. Personally, i liked 104.5 better, i think Kiss was more into "Doo Wop", which is music i could never get into. Kiss 106.7 did'nt last long, less than a year i believe and "Hot" did'nt last much longer than that. I couldnt pick up Kiss very well, i guess because of the low watts. I had some old Airchecks of "Kiss', but i got rid of them because of to much static.

June, I think former Y-107 morning guy Danny Wright also worked with Magic Jackson on Kiss 106.7 mornings. After Magic the morning duties were handled by Steve West (not the same old Y-107 Steve West who was also 106WLAC's Steven Bridgewater).

Getting a little off topic here, but right before 106.7 changed to rooster, they started adding more "pop"-sounding artists to their rotation. But it was still stuff from the '70s era. I remember hearing ABBA, Paul McCartney & Wings, and Elton John, among others.

Firepoint, might you be referring to The Planet? Circa 1997-99.
I remember the Planet, too. I was actually listening to them in December, 1998, when they changed formats to what became known as Kiss-FM. (I easily remember this because it sleeted that week leading up to Christmas and I did not have heat in my (then) apartment at that time. I don't think Planet ever played any '70s.

What I referred to above was right before they changed from Kiss to Rooster. They played listener calls about that time in which callers told them, "please don't ever change!" yet just three days after airing that announcement, they did exactly that. I liked both Planet and Kiss, but I haven't listened to them since that format change from Kiss to Rooster, partly because they had to have known at the time they aired that announcement that they were planning to change formats again, and partly because I haven't liked anything that station has done since then. If anyone really thinks that we (as radiophiles) listen to radio differently than the average listener, one must only take into consideration that above-referenced listener comment "please don't ever change" as proof that even listeners now know that their favorite station might be here today, and gone tomorrow. When I was growing up, it wasn't like that. We knew our favorite stations would always be there for us. Oh, they might evolve over time, but a radical overnight change? No way!
