Hullinger with Mellish on WSB

While sitting on I- 85 in traffic, I listened to Hullinger filling for Slade- -I was amused by Hullinger tossing pithy lines at Mellish. Kirk has a sense of humor !!Who knew??

wasn't hullinger's show on GST a bomb a few years ago?

"The Hull-man" is a dork, but a likable dork. He grows on you. He has a ton of knowledge but just never figured out a "smooth' way to deliver it. Yet you have to admire him 'cause he just keeps plucking away at it.

I don't understand the "dork" comment.
Jeff was a sports fixture on Ch5 for years. As best as I can remember, he was not fired.
I, for one, have always thought Jeff's presentation was very professional. Was he the right guy to call the Falcons?? I guess there are arguments on both sides of that question. But WSB obviously thinks he's good enough.....I think that's why they hired him! The Falcons WILL be on WSB next time....and I don't believe they hired Jeff to talk weather with Mellish.

If you don't understand it I can't explain it. I find him "dorky" or "nerdy". But in a "good way" lol. I said I like him. Remember when he was on 96 rock with Rude, Radical and Love? (Or was he after that "team" in another "rude crew? Doesn't matter). He tries really hard but just doesn't come across as "smooth". I can't think of a better word. Am I wrong to think that I saw him calling some college football games for ESPN years ago as well? I halfway remember that it was around that time that he parted ways with channel 5.

As for WSB? They are DYING for some competition. They aren't a pimple on the butt of what they were 10 years ago. I don't care what their "market share" or ratingas are, they flat out aren't as good as they used to be. They don't have to be. Where is there anything that resembles "competition" to them?

I respectfully disagree with the comments made about WSB. I think they are better now than they were at least a year ago. Adding a live Late night show has done just that. Adding Hullinger and Pete Colums (spelling ?) has made the news better. For the past few years WSB has been pretty stagnant. this year they have been improving. I think they are on the way up.

I said TEN years ago, not 1 year ago, but I will still stand by my statement. Big whoop. The added a "live" late show. They used to have one. I've only caught Kroc for about an hour. WSB just isn't on my "playlist" anymore. Clark is....... well Clark and there are only so many times you can here about the same scams or calls from the same idiots. Pretty soon you've just about heard it all. Boortz has been flat and getter flatter since he became syndicated. When is the last time "Valerie" called in? Never cared for Hannidy when he WAS in Atlanta so he's out. Savage? I've caught him a few times and he's more like Boortz was when he (Boortz) was a Libertarian not a republican moputh piece and didn't do his old man sexually frustrated go for the crotch bit all the time. Unfortunately for Kroc and Savage, my radio just isn't tuned into WSB anymore. A few years ago it never left there. Heck, I even listened to Hawks basketball and I don't care anything about basketball lol. I just never moved the dial.

I have never thought of hullinger as nerdy or not smooth.
He remains Atlanta. The guy is an icon here.
I think that's what I like about him.
wsb is about recognizable stars.

Jeff was brought in after Tom Hughes' expulsion after the Planet Radio fiasco; Kimmer dubbed him "The Messiah", which on the surface was humorous but inaccurate, because management apparently thought his charisma would save WGST. Jeff really is quite entertaining, IMHO, but he's not equivalent to TH. No one who was actually listening would characterize his show as a bomb, and when he cleared the way for Tom's return, we all genuinely wished him well. And now that I'm listening to WSB in the morning, I agree that the segments where he's sitting in for Scott Slade are far more entertaining. As a listener, I appreciate intelligent humor, insights, observations, personality revelation.

You're right, Hullinger did college football games (and some college basketball) at ESPN for about two years right after he left WAGA.

LOL I beg to differ. an "icon" has a star hung somewhere. Where is Jeff's? I can honestly say that I have never heard anyone but you call him an "icon". I think "journeyman survivor" would be a more accurate term. Now before you nut up, don't forget that I have stated several times that I like him. Still think of his as a bit "dorky" or "nerdy" though.

radio. .always kick and punch first.

What and who the hell are YOU talking about/too? If it's me let me tell you cowboy, I've never met or worked with Hullman. I'm one of those folks you elitists discount and ignore, you know, the ones who actually PAY your bills. I'm the dumbass that the advertisers are trying get to buy their products. Remember me? I see you don't. I'm the LISTENER. Now do you remember me? I see not, that's why Atlanta radio sucks so bad. YA'LL have lost complete touch with your "market" while competing for "market share." [EDIT]

Actually heard Hullman at 7:30 PM today. He STILL isn't "smooth". Need I define smooth for you? He fumbled a couple of words and paused a few times for........ well nothing. His delivery is STILL herky jerky. In the close to 15 years I've being listening to him it hasn't served him well. Can he figure it out? One definition of insanity is to continue the same behavior in the same situations and expect different results. I'll leave it there. YOU can apologise for him and make baseless acusations. I on the otherhand as a dumb ass listener will stick to what I hear and like............... and you wonder why some folks say radio is dead......... Hello? McFly?
