Humble Pie For Xmas?

We knew it was bound to happen, so Nurse Jeff and I are looking forward to a heapin' helping of Luvable One's homemade humble pie - KT'R is #3 twelve plus and movin' on up! Here's the pecking order for Fall P1:

1 KFWhyEye
2 KOOL (pre all Annoying Xmas Songs)
3 KT'R-FM
4 KHOT, KEZ & KMXP
5 KMLE, KYOT
6 KQMR
7 KUPD
8 KSLX, KNIX & KZZP
9 KKFR
10 KPKX

...and speaking of Movin 97~Five - they beat KAHM, KSWG and KGME. But that's it!

KTAR is actually sounding really good lately. I like the pairing of gaydos and cheese in pm drive. I am still not a fan of the morning snooze. They really need to give us a talk driven morning show in am drive. Whether it is Ankarlo, Kid, Hill, or some combination they need to get rid of the morning snooze. Possibly air at least two hours of Beck live and give us a early am show and then a late morning show as well.

25-54s? Anyone? Bueller? Old Gringo?

Doc, try the Batphone again. ;)

25-54 Trend.
KHOT
KMXP
KOOL FM
KQMR
KESZ
KFYI
KMLE
KSLX
KUPD
KTAR FM
KPKX
KYOT
KDKB
KZZP
KNIX
KLNZ
KTAR
KKFR

If KOOL-FM is #3 25-54, their numbers for 35-64 and 55+
must be through the roof.

When does November get kicked out, trend-wise? It will
be interesting to see if the C(BS) SUV of Silver Bells, now
parked at 840 North Central, will cause KOOL to tank or not.

About the only change we'd endorse is to start Aunt Carlos at 8am and go head to head with the Nearly Bald One. Of course that means Auntie would be pulling a four hour shift compared to TNBO's unheard of two hour shift. The pairing of Gaydos and Mac'nCheese has breathed new life into PMD and returned the talented, but evil Joe Crummey to evenings. TMISU would be nuts to shelve the Morning Snooze as it's what differentiates KT'R from all other Valley stations...plus it generates mucho dinero.

November is not even IN the trend yet... what we have is Aug/Sept/Oct and the 12 weeks ended in mid-October.

In mid-December, the December phase of Fall ends. Then we have PPM, which has no trends. Just individual months and weeks, but no rolling averages.

Who knows, but KOOL is going to make it hard for KEZ to make that December ratings "slam dunk."

I don't think there's a doubt that KOOL's ratings are going to trend downward thanks to their "smart" move playing all Christmas music for two months beginning on Halloween. ::) CBS must want to lose listeners with that move. ???

In regards to KTAR, the only real change from now to the summer is moving Gaydos to the afternoon drive and adding Crummey to Gaydos' old "7-10, 7-10, 7-10 because that's how I roll" slot. Personally, I like the morning news and wish KTAR still had something like it in the afternoons. Traffic updates every 20 or so minutes just doesn't cut it for me when your stuck in the awful evening rush hour. Add to that days when sports are on 92.3 in the evening (like last Monday's Arizona Cardinals game) and you get no traffic reports. That just doesn't cut it in a city as big as Phoenix. Maybe KFYI wants to do some more frequent traffic reports to make up for it!

CBS Radio Classic Hits stations are going all-Christmas at their own paces, but eventually it's happening. WCBS-FM just dabbled in it a little bit this evening. WOGL is hinting in promos to the start of all-Christmas. Though I'm not a fan of listening to all-Christmas, all the time personally, for the Phoenix market, why not take a part of the big ratings grab that KEZ normally gets? The competitive part of me loves the fact that KOOL has beaten them at their own game this season. I do think it's "smart", especially given the recent shake-ups, I predict a rise in the ratings.

More about the Christmas music on KOOL (of course I have to also mention the playlist): What will help even more is that it's gotten a lot better with an addition of more Christmas songs. A week ago, you could hear the same song with a gap of three hours... a little too often. I'd love to hear the addition the Ventures Christmas.

In defense of the 97.5 Moving station. They're not even part of the Phoenix market. Isn't it pretty good to even show up? They probably make most of their money selling commercials in Payson, Prescott and Cottonwood. I don't know why they even care about Phoenix. Although I'm not sure how many retirees in Prescott would enjoy the music they play.

They don't sell spots in Payson, Prescott, or Cottonwood. Their studios and sales offices are at 7th Street & Highland across from Xavier.

It's yet another out of market station trying to play in the market. They have one hand tied behind their back.

Dr, Nurse, et al

SING ALONG

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, there is Humble pie galore.
Doubting Thomases there'll be enough, if not I'll bake (or have Akbar buy)a whole bunch more.
Tiny tots (and big boys and girls) at 92.3 with their eyes all aglow will all sleep well tonight.

So when are you buying Dr.? You can wear a mask and cover the gremlin with the paper they use in the enterprise commercial and fear not, I'll never identify you. Trust me

Then there's the olde fartes like me who, this week, removed his radio (AM & FM but not the DX) from his bedroom and now wakes up to the MP3 player instead of KOOL (and the half-a-gang).

Mom would have loved KOOL's early switch to All Christmas, All The Time but the Old Gringo shot her demo off the fence so it doesn't matter she's not around any longer for the holiday festivities. As for me.....BAH! HUMBUG!

Ahhhhhh, nothing like Christmas with The Quicksilver Messenger Service or The Grateful Dead Rock Your Christmas to jolly our way through the holidays.

<sigh!> I guess if it is the only way to hear Johnny Mathis on the radio I'll have to tune in now and then.

What's wrong with Lumby-yard, except having to sleep in 'til 7? (or 7:00:08, 7:00:47-- OldiesFan, I could use your assistance in any knowledge of possible instances of the lamptimer getting ahead of itself. Pretty please ;) ).

I know we all don't seem to like the all-Christmas format here, but there sure are a heck of a lot who do. Here's one more of several interesting things I'd love to research about this market, if only I had the resources! I'm positive it's been done tons of times and certainly doesn't need any more of it, though.

What would we speculate as to who all these Christmas-fanatics are? My guess would be parents with kids too young to drive. I bet it could be significantly high to 50-54 (and beyond, for that matter-- and I DO think 54+ matters, by the way), because I think people find it overall soothing, joyful, and you CAN hear the Crystals, Brenda Lee, Bing Crosby, more Elvis, and more Beach Boys. I'm sure women in particular, and of all ages, would enjoy the format the most-- and last time I've checked this is a male dominated board. ;D

But I thought you'd like my suggestion of the Ventures!

Primarily Anglo women 35 to Sun City, with few men under 55. A natural fit for KEZ, while Nurse Jeff and I think this could be troublesome for KOOL. All Annoying Xmas music is ideal for a diary survey where listeners can use ditto marks or arrows to indicate their listening habits don't change for hours (nod, nod..wink,wink). PPM changes all of that and it'll be interesting to see how the format fares in markets using the new survey method.

Sorry Luvable One, your poetic license has been hereby revoked for the above. That Humble Pie must be aged as its taken the Master Blogger over two years to do what should have been done in one. And by the way, Nurse Jeff and I thought YOU were buying...now you want us to bail you out? Perhaps you're confusing us with Henry Paulson!

Glad to oblige, KLL, even if you hadn't asked extra nicely. :) Stand by, I have to
put up the warning signs: "Lamptimer work zone--times may vary--legal IDs may not
occur when normally required. Contact Gumpdusky Construction at 480-941-1007."

It gets ahead of itself by about eight seconds every 24 hours and recently slipped
earlier than 7:00. Today was 6:59:45, tomorrow should be about 6:59:37.

Landtuna--if you set your alarm for 7:00, and assuming it's an atomic alarm, you
should be awakened to the sounds of sounds...and not static. I decided not to
say "...and not the sounds of silence" as it's entirely possible that you could be
awakened to the sounds of silence, or The Sounds Of Silence. ;)

This will hold true for the rest of November until and unless someone enters the
shack and resets the time on the lamptimer using I don't know what reference.
(Maybe they use WWV-LP. It's cheaper, but you can't pick it up much beyond
Fort Collins. ;D)
