Humbolt

Seriously, give it up, Scott. Everyone is on to you now. I wanted to believe that they were wrong, but it clearly is you, hiding behind another name. Everyone knows that you hated this board, and wanted to see it shut down, and that you rejoiced when it briefly was shut down, and now you are trolling your way into trying to get it shut down again. These guys on here know you, and know your writing style. If you want to post here, why not do so under your original name? Why hide behind a fake screen name and attack others on here?

I was thinking that WJPJ was operating from the trailer at the transmitter site at Humboldt's Spangler Park, where WHMT and WLSZ were when Boyd had them years ago. Apparently, WJPJ was actually being operated from Ripley until a few months ago. WJPJ now calls a storefront in downtown Humboldt home. Swap and Shop can now be heard live on the station weekdays, and some other programming has also been added. Search "WJPJ" on Facebook to find their page which also includes some pictures of their downtown location.

After running the format for around five years, "Classic Hits 1190" is no more. "The Good News Radio Network" with a Gospel format can now be heard on 1190 AM and its FM translator at 99.9 FM. I could be wrong, but this appears to satellite delivered. Although I've heard "The Good News Radio Network" liners/imaging, I haven't yet heard a top of the hour legal ID.

I didn't know that 1190 had a translator on 99.9. did they have that already or is that new with the new format? I know it's making a dent in being able to pick up FM 100 in Memphis around the Humboldt and Trenton area, and also Alamo.

Also, it appears 740 in Humboldt is off again.

This can't be good news for AM stations in rural west TN if yet another one is struggling!

How is the Trenton station (former WTNE) doing?

I believe 1500 is off as well. They had been simulcasting 1190 for a while and going by the call letters WPOT, but they've been off every time I've checked in recent months.

I am of the opinion that most rural counties in west TN could support MAYBE one AM station apiece. Many towns are "over-radioed" with stations from years gone by, and can now no longer support such stations. It may be due to net population loss, older listeners slowly dying off, or a combination of both.

It seems like the ones who have FM translators probably do better. 1190 in Humboldt and WTRO 1450 in Dyersburg have managed to do that. But I'd guess that most of the people who actually listen to them are listening on the FM side. I know I occasionally tune in to WTRO's translator in the Fall when Tennessee football is on if I'm in the Dyersburg area.

I would definitely agree that high school and college sports (especially football) and maybe paid church services (dollar a holler) are the lifeblood of some of these small struggling stations.

I believe that you live in or near Alamo. Can you get WTRO's translator there?

I can get it North of Alamo, but at home it struggles with K-LOVE's translator on the same frequency (101.7) in Brownsville. I really would rather get WTRO, but K-LOVE's translator was there first and WTRO should have gone to another frequency instead.
