Huntsville Numbers

The big story here is the big jump ahead for Hot 103.5. From 12th to 6th with the highest ratings in station history and the first time they have ever beaten both WEUP and WHRP. I've noticed that rhythmic has taken a back seat to a more mainstream urban format and I guess the new change in mornings to Steve Harvey has really paid off for them. Congrats WHWT for a job well done. Hopefully it'll continue into the book. Not too much else to report other than The River seems to continue on its slow decline. I wonder if CC would concider a format change if a rebound doesn't happen. REAL Top 40 perhaps? One can only hope. Oh, and The Wolf continues to be a waist of a good signal. I still think its a smart move for WVNN-FM to move to 93.3 and try something else on 92.5. Classic Country perhaps, or something Huntsville doesn't really have already. Any of my other North Alabama people here have any thoughts?

The numbers for WEUP seem to be way off the mark. I'm sure that Hundley Batts and his crew are scratching their heads and turning over every stone to determine how this down tread has taken place. Hate to see an independent broadcaster take a hit and especially from Mr. Dickey!

Has WWFA Florence shown up in the Huntsville ratings?

Nope. I was looking for them but not yet. I'd be surprised if it doesn't soon. I hear LOTS of people talking about it, even in Huntsville where you can't really pick it up. I'm looking forward to seeing how strong of a showing they will have in the Huntsville numbers once it starts to show. Maybe if it's strong enough it'll open the eyes of the powers that be at these clusters to make a change! One can only hope.

I'm sure they are. I haven't seen the breakdown numbers so I can't really say for sure but the big changes to Hot 103.5 during this time was the morning show change, which I'm sure has made a big impact, and they have taken out the CHR/Rhythmic songs from the playlist and are strickly urban now so that may also be a factor. Plus WEUP has always been on the short end of the stick when it comes to signal in Huntsville, but Hot 103.5 is weaker in Decatur and Athens where WEUP is stronger so it's kind-of a trade off. Maybe the book placement was heavy in the Huntsville/Madison Co. area this go around where Hot is stronger. WEUP needs to secure a stronger translator for Huntsville. I've been told that they could move their current 102.9 kicker down to 102.7 and boost the signal significantly but that's never been applied for. With all the rescent translator moves and increases in Huntsville though, there's gotta be one available they can use.

Old radio adage - "As goes mornings, so gies the rest of the radio station". Truer words were never said. Steve Harvey is driving the surge for Hot. Congrats to Stroh. Smart move. Well done.

KISS 102.7 goodbye in Madison County if WEUP moves their translator to that signal.

I thought that too. Maybe that was possible before Kiss signed on the air. Probably not now. There's got to be a signal available that they could use for a translator with bigger power and coverage than what they've got though.

You're right about that one.
