How come Hot 103.5 is not included?
It's just as I said in a previous post on here. Their signal doesn't reach all of the market. Once you get out of Huntsville and Madison it gets really bad. It's unlistenable in Athens and staticy at best in Decatur and Hartselle. Somone on here had previously said the owner isn't as worried about those areas because Huntsville is the main part of the market and most of the numbers come out of Huntsville but their poor showing proves that you can't under-estimate the Decatur and Athen influence in the Huntsville market numbers. It's as I said before, MUCH of the urban numbers in the Huntsville market actually come out of Decatur & Athens (more so in Decatur though). There is a big urban audience there. WEUP's signal is strong in those areas, so they just arent listening to Hot 103.5 because they simply can't pick it up well enough to listen to it. Stroh needs to seriously look into what he can do to improve his Decatur and Athens coverage or his station won't ever improve much in it's numbers than what it has now. He won't be able to move 103.5 further west because of WLAY in Florence, but he needs to look into some translators or something. It's not the best situation, but it'll be better than what he's got now.
Speaking of signal strength, I don't really understand why some on here are talking about Rockets signal not being good enough to be number one. They have a 12,000 watt signal that's city grade through all of the market area, Madison, Limestone, and Morgan counties. That's plenty good enough! Their morning show numbers and very impressive. Congrats to them and to Fish! I don't think Rocket needs an apology from Rick and Bubba. Looks like R&B leaving Rocket was the best thing for them! If anything Rocket should be saying thank you to Rick and Bubba for leaving! LOL. I'd imagine the Rockets numbers would climb even higher if they reduced the amount of classic rock they play a little. Id love to see them concentrate on mostly current Rock with a little less classic rock mixed in than they play now. I like the new drops saying "Alabama's legendary Rocket 95.1!"
And speaking of morning shows WEUP has now gone with the syndicated Ricky Smiley morning show and has dropped their crappy local show they had. It's better than those guys on the local show they had, but I don't know if going syndicated was the best choice. I would have liked to see some good people come in and take over the local morning show but keep it local. Now it's syndicated against syndicated between Hot 103.5 and WEUP. WEUP did this when WHRP was on 93.3 as "Power". Power had Doug Banks and WEUP switched from local to Russ Parr. It didn't work then, so they went back local. I guess they wanna give it another try with a different show and different competition. It might improve numbers a little, but I'll predict that it won't be a major success.
WZYP had a good showing in the book. I can't help but to think they could be number one if they just stayed true to their format ALL day and improved their music selection during the daytime. If they sounded as good during the day as they do at night, I'd bet they would be right on WDRM's tail in their numbers chasing the number one spot.
WWFF's numbers are what I expected. 93.3 The Wolf isn't even close to beating WDRM, let alone even being close to being in the top 10! Infact WDRM gained almost as much audience from the last book that The Wolf has total! Looks like 93.3's THIRD attempt as country will be a bust just like the last two.
And finally, it looks like WHRP's move to a weaker signal didn't hurt it at all. They are just as strong as they were when they were on 93.3 and they are winning by a long shot in the Huntsville urban audience race beating WEUP and Hot 103.5 combined! Impressive for a 710 watt signal with a syndicated morning AND evening show!
