Congrats to Rocket 95.1 and The Go Fish Radio Show!

Fish tied for #1 Persons 6-10am with WDRM He don't SUCK!

I made a prediction that he would be #1. And..... I BE RIGHT!

Congrats to WZYP as well!

Rocket at number 3 now? Interesting. My earlier comment in the "best morning show" topic about their signal coverage and Fish being #1 doesn't hold up anymore.

Apparently, it took a little while for Fish to build up his audience. It could also be that everyone, except for me, is really liking Rocket's brand of rock now.

Hot 103.5 is not in the Top 10! I just posted the top 10!

Blue Wanderer You Did Say:

Fish may have done a lot of good for the community but I doubt he will have the #1 show mainly due to WRTT's signal coverage. If WRTT had a blowtorch coverage like WZYP has, then his chances of having the #1 show would be higher.

If you look at Rocket's Signal it goes East to West From Guntersville to the edge of Athens. North to South from Fayettville, TN to Cullman, AL. Apparently thats all they need!

I do appreciate you being able to say where you were off! Most people on boards use it to be one sided!

But you did also say this and I have to call you out:Apparently, it took a little while for Fish to build up his audience.

I have been in radio for 19 years and in Huntsville for 11 years! Fish Started in December I think (that's 9 months). So, Rocket loses a #1 Show in Rick and Bubba and A guy comes to town and in less than a year he is #1 Persons 25-54!

Lets name the people who didn't do that or hasn't done that! Rick and Bubba, Jon Boy and Billy, Ace and TJ, Jon and Bonnie, Chris and Dee Dee, Scott and Dee Dee, Tom Joyner, MOJO do I need to say more!

I will admit I thought for sure Rocket was done after Rick and Bubba left before I heard the Go Fish Show! From #1 with Rick and Bubba and in 9 months #1 with Fish! Wow! That is unheard of in Radio!

Rick and Bubba need to apologize to the Rocket for leaving them! Because it looks like it was the Rocket that made them #1 not The Rick and Bubba Army!

I don't know who is running that place now! I hear that they don't have a GM (That is a Radio Programmers Dream!) But whoever it may be needs props!

I think Huntsville radio as a whole is really good! I remember the Mack Bramlett days of WDRM dominating and then WZYP having there time in the Sun!!

Maybe Huntsville is now a Rock town!

I have worked for Clear Channel, Cox, and Cumulus and have been burned by the Voice Tracking Cookie Cutter Corporate Guys! It is good to see the Independent Rocket City Broadcasting crew draw some blood!

Congrats again!

Hey wilddj:

I was thinking that the Rocket's morning slot was dead in the ratings after Rick and Bubba left. Yesterday's ratings report surprise the hell out of me. I knew Rick and Bubba weren't successful in the beginning, but the others I didn't know much about. I first started listen to Rick and Bubba in '97 on and off until they later disappear from WQEN. I didn't know what happen to them until I saw them on tv one day in '03 and I got back into the loop.

During that time, I was a major fan of The X (WRAX) and listen to them all the time when you could still hear the station into the Huntsville market. After they went away, I tried getting used to the Rocket but still to this day it doesn't click with me like the way X did before. That's where my comments on Rocket's music comes from.

How come Hot 103.5 is not included?

It's just as I said in a previous post on here. Their signal doesn't reach all of the market. Once you get out of Huntsville and Madison it gets really bad. It's unlistenable in Athens and staticy at best in Decatur and Hartselle. Somone on here had previously said the owner isn't as worried about those areas because Huntsville is the main part of the market and most of the numbers come out of Huntsville but their poor showing proves that you can't under-estimate the Decatur and Athen influence in the Huntsville market numbers. It's as I said before, MUCH of the urban numbers in the Huntsville market actually come out of Decatur & Athens (more so in Decatur though). There is a big urban audience there. WEUP's signal is strong in those areas, so they just arent listening to Hot 103.5 because they simply can't pick it up well enough to listen to it. Stroh needs to seriously look into what he can do to improve his Decatur and Athens coverage or his station won't ever improve much in it's numbers than what it has now. He won't be able to move 103.5 further west because of WLAY in Florence, but he needs to look into some translators or something. It's not the best situation, but it'll be better than what he's got now.

Speaking of signal strength, I don't really understand why some on here are talking about Rockets signal not being good enough to be number one. They have a 12,000 watt signal that's city grade through all of the market area, Madison, Limestone, and Morgan counties. That's plenty good enough! Their morning show numbers and very impressive. Congrats to them and to Fish! I don't think Rocket needs an apology from Rick and Bubba. Looks like R&B leaving Rocket was the best thing for them! If anything Rocket should be saying thank you to Rick and Bubba for leaving! LOL. I'd imagine the Rockets numbers would climb even higher if they reduced the amount of classic rock they play a little. Id love to see them concentrate on mostly current Rock with a little less classic rock mixed in than they play now. I like the new drops saying "Alabama's legendary Rocket 95.1!"

And speaking of morning shows WEUP has now gone with the syndicated Ricky Smiley morning show and has dropped their crappy local show they had. It's better than those guys on the local show they had, but I don't know if going syndicated was the best choice. I would have liked to see some good people come in and take over the local morning show but keep it local. Now it's syndicated against syndicated between Hot 103.5 and WEUP. WEUP did this when WHRP was on 93.3 as "Power". Power had Doug Banks and WEUP switched from local to Russ Parr. It didn't work then, so they went back local. I guess they wanna give it another try with a different show and different competition. It might improve numbers a little, but I'll predict that it won't be a major success.

WZYP had a good showing in the book. I can't help but to think they could be number one if they just stayed true to their format ALL day and improved their music selection during the daytime. If they sounded as good during the day as they do at night, I'd bet they would be right on WDRM's tail in their numbers chasing the number one spot.

WWFF's numbers are what I expected. 93.3 The Wolf isn't even close to beating WDRM, let alone even being close to being in the top 10! Infact WDRM gained almost as much audience from the last book that The Wolf has total! Looks like 93.3's THIRD attempt as country will be a bust just like the last two.

And finally, it looks like WHRP's move to a weaker signal didn't hurt it at all. They are just as strong as they were when they were on 93.3 and they are winning by a long shot in the Huntsville urban audience race beating WEUP and Hot 103.5 combined! Impressive for a 710 watt signal with a syndicated morning AND evening show!

It not some, it's just me talking about how they can't be #1 due to their signal. If you look at WDRM and WZYP, both of their signals has 100,000 watts so I figure you had to have that much power to be #1.

More new rock would definitely help, but I doubt they will ever reduce the amount of classic rock (or ease up on the heavy rotation of Nickelback and Creed). It would be nice if I was wrong in this case.

WAHR had a huge book. And without nearly the help from corporate that their sister station, WRTT, got. The AC battle is between WAHR, WRSA, the River and--at times--WZYP. WRTT has no direct format competitor. Of course the Rocket will do well. The real story is WAHR...a brand new morning show, and a new musical direction, and they PASTED the other AC's.

I see your point. Seems like a 100,000 watt stick is required to be number one in Huntsville. Atleast it has been that way traditionally. That may change though is the Rocket continues to increase.

Yea, I hope you're wrong in that case as well. It would be nice.

The 100,000 Watts Power sure is good to have, but if you don't know how to use it, it doesn't matter how big your stick is! Insert Joke Here!!

WDRM just sits there! They used to have 40 shares when Mack Bramlett owned it! His cume was bigger than all 3 TV stations at one time!

Same power but now has a a 12-14 share. Yes the market has gotten better, but not 26 share points!

Sure WDRM and WZYP are #1 and and #2 12 plus, but 25-54 is where it is at for advertisers!

WZYP, WRTT, AND WAHR's sales staff should send their PD's and Jocks some money!

WDRM is getting hit from both sides! WZYP and WAHR got the Women and WRTT own the Men! Now if Cumulus knew how to program Country and use the Wolf! WDRM would go down!

In my opinion, the wolf will be put down by the end of the year if something doesn't change. I don't know what they're rank was, but I imagine 105.7 probally beat them, and they only have a 6kw signal 35 miles southwest of hsv on Battleground Mtn (where I live at). I tried listening to the wolf, but I find myself getting tired of it quick. If they want to be unique and different from DRM, in a good way, They need to mix more tried and true songs with today's instead of picking Shania Twain along with Faith Hill. I guess they may be leaning toward the ''country women''. Plus, when their 100kw torch was up in tennessee I was able to hear them better, now that they've moved closer and cut the power by 86kw, All I hear most the time is WSYE out of Tupelo.
