Hurricaine Katrina Coverage

For anybody who's interested in airchecks of Hurricaine Katrina coverage, here's some from XM247 (Emergency Alert Channel) this afternoon.

I'm going to try recording WWL tonight. This is turning out to be a historical disaster so I think its worth airchecking the coverage.

This is very serious. My thoughts and prayers are with the people who live in the area where this Catigory 5 hurricaine is headed.
______________

I can try airchecking WWL from here in Birmingham, Alabama but I'm getting lots of the usual interference from YVKU-Caracas. Anyone closer to the Gulf - but not in harms way - airchecking WWL tonight?

I got 30min worth of WWL. The signal is not very good at all because my boombox is crappy (Fades in and out, etc)

I'm gonna try to record with a better radio later tonight. All of the Entercom New Orleans stations are simmulcasting with WWL.
______________

If anyone wants an aircheck recorded off the dx of WWL, I can do that. I am in Austin, Texas and reception is strong about 80% of the time with some fading.

Email if you would like an aircheck and let me know what time you want.

Here's about 15min worth recorded from DX in Kenosha, WI. The only AM reciever I have that can record with doesn't get all that great AM reception so I'm not able to record WWL without static and lots of fading. I may try a little later to see if the signal gets any better. I may try connecting my Radio Shack multiband radios and record from there. They usually don't have any problems getting WWL. At the rate this hurricane is going this may be one of the last times I'll be able to so much as hear WWL in at least a few weeks.

From reading other posts, I have the advantage of turning the antenna east and not having the interference from South America on 870 AM.

Re: WWL Update

I turned the antenna and changed radios. All interference (probably from this computer) is gone. Clear reception of WWL over 90% of the time. Sounds almost like a local. No interference from other stations.

I'm taping WWL in Memphis right now. I'm running off of my Grunding, there's a lot of fading in and out. I may only get 45 minutes. No interference from any other station though. Steven will probably have the best tapes.

Oh, nevermind. WWL went off the air at 12:45.

I have WWL until they were off the air at 12:44AM.

Hurricane Katrina Coverage and 690 WTIX

I don't really think that there is a big interest in airchecks of hurricane coverage. Hurricanes are so frequent and each one seems to cause similar damage. Personally I have airchecks of hurricane coverage and no one has ever shown an interest in it.

Listening to it live can be interesting though. Everyone is mentioning WWL, but did any of you catch 690 WTIX? They were putting a great signal up here into Nashville, TN and were especially interesting to listen to during the early morning hours when WWL was off.

I got WTIX up here in Wisconsin. I recorded it for about 10-15min at around 3AM before it faded back out. It was in and out all night.
______________

I was recording some of WWL-AM 870 until they got knocked off the air at 12:44am by Hurricane Katrina. I don't have the tape now but it was good.
______________

Re: Hurricane Katrina Coverage and 690 WTIX

Generally I would agree with you, but when was the last time a city was shut down for any reason? I have had three requests for my WWL aircheck.
