Hurrican Dean, and who will offer best radio coverage.

With Erin behind us, I have to admit I am eyeing the Atlantic and Hurrican Dean. Forcast show it to hit the Gulf by Tuesday morning as a CAT 4. Most of the current computer models show impact south of Corpus and into Mexico. This really bothers me because these storms seem to take a turn to the north as they near land....Which means the Texas coast might be facing a huge threat this time next week. (yes, I know we are a week out, and the forcasts are never THAT reliable this far out)

Anyway, let me get to my point.....which stations (AM or FM) seem to do a great job of covering Tropical events?

If it comes anywhere near the upper Texas coast, you can bet 740 KTRH will be wall to wall coverage. When Rita slammed into B/PA in '05, all of the CC stations, besides KLOL simulcasted KTRH, CBS Radio simulcasted Channel 11 KHOU on all 4 of their stations, and IIRC Cox simulcasted KTRK Channel 13 on KLDE(at that time) and KHPT. KTHT 97.1 had Tubby(the morning guy at that time) staying on the air throughout the day.

You should have seen the non-stop coverage we just had with Tropical Joke Erin. You'd have thought that we were getting a lot more than just 8 inches of rain.

During Rita, NewsTalk 560 KLVI in Beaumont did an excellent job.

I'll second that. KLVI has a history of news coverage that continues in spite of Clear Channel's cutbacks of news coverage in other cities. I wonder what the new owner will do?
