Hurricane Coverage in Mobile Baldwin Co.

They best hurricane coverage was WHIL 91.3 (The WKRG simulcast) & WHEP in Foley I hope they will continue their partnership with WKRG in the future, It works I listened almost to Louisiana. There were no other winners in the Mobile Market. Pensacola was a different. (See my North Florida post.) In Baldwin County WHEP 1310 radio kept us informed. The owner and staff manned the console around the clock, and stayed on the air even after mandatory sign off. Hats off to Clark and his staff plus they stream on the net. This is the coverage you get when you have the same owner for 50 years... BRAVO!!!

A suggestion to broadcast stations (TV and radio), send a veteran reporter on the scene to cover the scoop. Nothing is more silly that a live shot with a announcer holding a wind meter with winds of 5 MPH saying "This is incredible!!)
or panning over to a shot when a small tree branch or twig falls on the ground.
Viewers and listeners get insulted, and will look for real information, (meaning they switch channels). :)
______________

Daytimer WMFC 1360 (Monroeville) did this as well, simulcasting WKRG-TV. As I understand it, AM stations mandated to power down or sign off at night may stay at their full daytime power during public emergencies.
______________

Are you guys kidding? You're saying that the best radio coverage in the area was a station that just piped in channel 5?

All 6 Mobile/Pensacola Clear Channel stations went into simulcast mode and offered round the clock coverage including listener call-ins. It didn't get any better than that.

I didn't say that 5 was the best by any means...I said they had a AM simulcast partner that stayed with them past signoff time.

I didn't listen to the Gulf Coast Storm Alert network coverage of Dennis, but I DID listen to much of it during Ivan. If the coverage was similar, I'd definitely agree with you that it was very good.
______________
