Hurricane from WSAR

I tuned in a couple weeks ago and two chicks were yakking about something. They were taking calls and everything. I've got to say that the technical quality of the broadcast was as good as any regular radio station. So props to them. Herren took his lemons and made lemonade. Can't say anything bad about that. I wish him all the success in the world.

My planned radio station kicks off in 2011. I already purchased the domain. So part of the work is done. Now I just have to buy actual equipment... LOL. It's coming though. Could be January 2011. Could be December 2011. I don't know. But it will be here.

I'm debating starting an internet station. It would be spoken-word so the R.I.A.A./Sound Exchange can't extort any money. I'm not going to keep major labels afloat. Let them go the way of horse-drawn carriages.

I feel the same way. There are 10,000 stations already playing music. What am I going to do? Become station 10,001? Sounds incredibly boring already. I'm definitely shooting for something different and unique. A type of programming people can't get from thousands of other places. That would be no fun to me to do. I want to create a station to be proud of. I wouldn't feel very proud if I had to tell people that the content on my station is the same thing that they can already hear from anywhere else. It would make me feel f*cking lazy. Besides.... what would be the motivation for people to even tune in? Same music. Different station name? Geeez... that's some motivation. LOL. Let other people have their generic sounding stations. I don't mean to take away from them either. Plenty of people have great sounding music stations online. But like I said... there are already thousands out there. It's enough already. I'll be doing something much more unique.

If people are more active in their music selection (which seems to be the case) then playing music at people as a concept, is on borrowed time. It's a shame because since that's what people think of as radio, the personality of it is mostly gone. With all that being said, internet talk seems like it could be endless in its variety & reach. In a decade, who knows where it could be? It seems almost assuredly light years ahead of what we have now.
