Who do you think did the best regarding the overall storm?

I was pleasantly surprised with Bob Frantz on WTAM. I listened to his show late on Monday, and he was taking calls from all over the area, including one from New Jersey and another from New York. He did a good job interacting with listeners. Kudos!
 
Bob is very underrated.

Having him on in the evenings really eliminates the need for "Sportsline", because while now by trade a general issues/politics talker, Frantz can also easily stop on a dime and return to his sports roots should the situation dictate.

It's too bad that more than half the time, Frantz's show is pre-empted by Tribe or Cavs games.

But he is the main substitute for both Bill Wills and Mike Trivisonno, and I do believe he's the heir apparent to the PMD slot once Triv decides to hang 'em up.
 
Agreed. Bob can easily slide in and take over afternoons if and when Triv does leave. An easier transition as opposed to months of auditions. For now, the longtime PMD host is staying put.

TV-wise, I thought 3 was good, and 19/43 wasn't too bad either.
 
Frantz did a great job Monday night, he kept me entertained while I sat in the dark listening on my cellphone. He can be an above average host, though he definitely leaves some room for improvement when it comes to shows he does about politics.

I don't think any radio other stations did anything close to the coverage WTAM brought to the table. I think KNR stayed mostly sports and The Fan had the Monday Night Football game on. Were any other stations covering Sandy on the local level?

Is that due to Frantz not knowing or not agreeing with certain politcal issues?

Doubt it.

The only other talk stations in Cleveland are WHK and WERE, and they stayed with their usual syndicated fare in the late evening hours. Neither one really has local talent during the week.

Maybe some of the music oriented FMs might have had hourly updates or something to that effect, but only 1100 really had wall to wall coverage.
 
Six if Bob Frantz was a liberal talk show host when it came to politics he would have been off the air in 6 months. Bob is a good sportstalk host as well as general issues host. So he leans conservative? WTAM has tried numerous liberal talk shows and they have all failed. Even Bob Becker who was somewhat decent bombed out of the Saturday morning slot

Fair being fair, Bob Becker held down the Saturday morning slot for over a decade, and was Bill Wills' main sub.

He was a victim more of cost cutting than he was poor performance.

Politically, Becker was left of center, but subtley.

Now when they had Jerry Springer in the 9-noon slot, THAT was a disaster.
 
Guys, I'm not sure what Bob knows or doesn't know, however its clear he leans quite a bit to the right and that definitely comes through when he handles political subjects. This topic has been discussed several times I believe, and there is no arguing with WTAM's ratings, they are consistently good. And as a station the majority of their line-up doesn't lean right, its squarely in the conservative camp, which seems to work well for them.

I rarely have ever heard Bob promote a point of view that is negative to the right or positive to the left. I know when I listen to him talk politics I am probably not getting the whole story. Much like when I watch Fox News or MSNBC....I know I am likely getting a rather slanted view. Bob does a good job with sports and general issues, but politically it'd be nice to see somebody without an agenda and more in the middle....but apparently that's just doesn't make any money....which is really messed up when you think about it.
 
France did do a very solid job with the coverage, however, I think it's a bit disingenuous to say he "leans," right. He's using 50,000 watts to help reinforce Republican talking points...which is fine. I seriously have no issue with this, but it's not a "lean." At least he's honest about it.

As for him taking over PM drive, I can tell you that other radio pros/execs in this town are rooting for just that. He cannot carry that slot the way Trvi has for 15+ years. He's just not that much of an entertainer. He's a solid sports host who gets annoying at times, doesn't understand what an economy of words is. Too much babbling and just isn't really a funny guy. Reminds me of Kevin Keane in that regard.

Kevin Keane was nothing more than a pom-pom boy who consistently shilled for the teams, and was primarily a sports host who was completely over his skis when he tried to venture outside his wheelhouse.

At least Bob Frantz sounds like a competent host who knows what he's talking about and has the versitility to talk either issues/politics or sports and sound respectable doing it.

Is he conservative? Of course.

But bottom line - he's a very solid talk host.

When they moved Frantz to the evening to replace Keane, it was the best move they made in years.

Now if/when Frantz takes over for Triv in PMD, will he get Triv-like numbers? Doubt it (and that goes for anybody), but he'll at least hold his own.
