Huskies moving back to KOMO

Although KOMO is a "news" station, they certainly incorporate a lot of talk programming as it is.

I'm curious to see what will happen to KJR. There isn't much keeping that station alive these days by the looks of it. I think the Huskies contract was their only "life support".

According to sources 2 more FT staffers were shown the door today. If they're spending on sports but laying people off, the message is quite clear...KOMO will be back to its pre-all news format in 6 months or less.

I think we can all expect some sort of flip on KJR-AM soon. As it stands right now, KBKS is the only venture owned by CC that is notably successful.

Maybe KJR will flip to Progressive Talk! Dream on...

I've said this before, KJR isn't going anywhere anytime soon. With the loss of the Huskies though, you kind of have to wonder if the people at 645 Eliot are considering flipping anyway.

Who did they let go? I noticed they've got a few new sounders themselves that went into service a couple days ago.

PM Drive reporter Hanna Scott is gone from the website; presumably she's out.

Brian Calvert lost his 9-noon show, again. Morning show runs until 10 (like it did for years) and the afternoon show starts as 2PM (like it did for years). Schedule on komo website shows Rick Van Cise solo from 10-2. According to Calvert's facebook, he's moving to weekend mornings + weekday reporting.

Larry Rice indicated on his twitter that he's done anchoring monday nights and weekend mornings and that he will quit using his KOMO twitter soon. I suspect he's out in a week or two.

Who's left to report in the PM drive? The released Ian Sterling a few months back. Is it just going to be Charlie Harger? And what is Nancy Barrick doing as Executive Producer of the afternoon news?

That's a shame, I really enjoyed Calvert's in-depth reports. The other thing that annoys me about what they're doing now is they're going back to the more breaks. What was wrong with going 20 minutes non-stop at the top of the hour?

4 minute long commercial breaks, that's what. And the "20 minutes of continuous news" was only from 5a-7p. A good move to drop the concept IMO.

I didn't... In all news, the clock should be sacred. No matter the day part, you should expect the same format when you tune in. Both this show and the previous Nine To Noon with Calvert and Nancy Barrick (axed 2012) tried add more conversation to the news. I found it to be out place.

The bottom line is Brian Calvert is one of the most talented reporters in radio. His breaking news reports and features are outstanding. I have always felt that the anchor desk is not the best utilization of his talents.

Yeah, maybe this could be a great opportunity to launch a streaming service or podcasts of Calvert's features. I don't like where they've placed a few of the commercial breaks. Even if they dropped the non-stop news at the top of the hour, I don't quite understand the purpose of 1 or 2 spots between the news and the sports now. It's ABC, top stories, traffic, weather, more news, commercial break which should be eliminated, sports, another break, traffic, weather, another break that shouldn't be there, then a bit more news from around the world, then money, another break, traffic and weather, then yet another commercial break before lifebeat or consumer tip alternating hours or another story at half hours. If I were running the station, I'd have the breaks after sports, money, and lifebeat or consumer tip, and that's it. That's still 6 2-4 minute breaks an hour.
