Hy Lit & Beatlemaniacs Come Together

In the fall of 1964, there was a rather unusual excitement building throughout the entire Delaware valley, that something rather historical was going to take place. A group called the Beatles, part of a British Musical invasion was landing in the United States for one incredible tour. Earlier that year, representing all the fans in the city of Brotherly Love, I traveled to New York’s William Morris agency, to book this new, and as of yet unseen in person, group.
In the week before September 2, 1964, I would hear from Frank Rizzo, who eventually became mayor, and was currently Captain of the Philadelphia Police, had called to say his boss and children wanted to meet the Beatles. I said you got it. But there is a problem. We’re being out numbered by the fans. “The only problem you have is getting them into convention hall”, Rizzo said, “and I’ve got an idea”.
Frank and I arranged to have the Beatles smuggled in, from Atlantic City, where the day before they were performing at the Jersey Shore. While a decoy limousine procession traveled up the New Jersey White Horse pike, a Hackney’s fish truck, carrying the Beatles, slowly rolled up the Black Horse pike, and casually past thousands of screaming fans, into the food service entrance at convention hall.
And so it had worked. We held a news conference that the Beatles are in the building. (see picture HyLitRadio.com). Next, Part 2.

Was Larry Kane in the fish truck, too?

And why is Hy doing favors for a brutal, actively racist and corrupt cop like Frank Rizzo?

And who the hell are you to question who to due favors for? Your already attacking or accusing someone before they even became mayor at that time. And if your for MOVE.....then Move the hell out of this country.,... no excuse me....... Planet. Because that's what your minds been at. Another planet. [EDIT]

LOL!!! talk about calling the kettle black, you have the gaul to rip people who are pro-Rock, and in the same breath talk about the best mayor Philadelphia ever had. [EDIT]

[EDIT=derogatory and inflamatory comments]

I think Frank was one of the best Mayor's Philly has had in my life time. At least he did not try to burn down the city!

Mr. Rizzo also threw the switch to launch the new sound of WPEN-A/F when it came back on the air with "Nothing But Oldies" "95 PEN", I believe he was on the air for a few minutes also. Would Ferrett Head ever do the same, doubt it, [EDIT]. Its people like this F.F. or Bierkenstock or whatever it goes by this week to stir up trouble. He can come on here and give me grief about what I post on Rock and call me a racist, then talk about other people. These complainers are all from the same mold, anti-Rock, pro-Urban, and very defensive, you know the line, watch what you say, but the not on my block philosophy.

[EDIT=derogatory]
