I have not lived in Philadelphia since 1983 and listening to this station is just like listening to Philadelphia oldies radio when I was there. I remember Mike St. John Saturday nights on WPEN. I guess he was the one who introduced me to the Philly sound of music or the Philly brand of rock and roll. Some of the songs have migrated to my hometown (NYC) such as The 81 and It's Gonna Take A Miracle. But they and the other truly Philadelphia songs are played more intensely in Philadelphia. Others did not reach New York. There is also that very Philadelphian stress on Motown which I have not found anywhere else.
Hylit radio is the real Philadelphia music and radio station and I can now listen here in Texas or anywhere. I need to find a way to get good soft pretzels and cheesesteak here and I will really have a Philadelphia experience. If I try hard, I can find Tastycake here.
Thanks Hy Lit.
