Hy Lit & Jonathan P. Casey Anniversaries at WSNJ

Just wanted to let readers of this forum know that there are a couple of noteworthy anniversaries at Bridgeton, NJ based WSNJ-AM this month.

October 2 marked the first anniversary of Hy Lit's return to radio as he joined the WSNJ family as an overnight personality and features contributor to Jonathan P. Casey's Afternoon Show. As Jon himself might say, "Hy burns the midnight oil midnight 'til dawn, all week long" on WSNJ. And as I would be the first to say, he's a tough act to follow on Saturday mornings, but he's the best lead-in this young broadcaster could have!

Speaking of Jonathan P. Casey, October 9th marks the 35th anniversary of his debut at WSNJ. Over the years, Jon has done it all from The Old Country Store to Delaware Valley Hotline to providing "good music for good people" on his Afternoon Show. Perhaps his proudest accomplishment was helping to bring his mentor Hy Lit to the airwaves at WSNJ.

I'd like to offer a public congratulations to Hy and Sam Lit and Jonathan P, a couple of great broadcasters who have certainly had a profound impact on my career.

Just wondering if the FCC still requires stations to show evidence of serving in the community interest. If so, one of the greatest blunders around here was the demise of 107.7 to make way for Philadelphia's 7th urban-based station at 107.9. Can't think of any station which served its community more than WSNJ. They even reported school lunch menus and lost pet announcements, not to mention George Moore's complete coverage of South Jersey high school sports. Thanks to local advertising on WSNJ, we now regularly go to a few area restaurants we otherwise would not have heard of.

After the sale of the FM was announced, I made a few aircheck tapes of Jonathan around the holidays (2003), knowing those would probably be the last times I'd be able to listen. (We just can't get 1240 in the Blackwood/Turnersville area). I was also able to tape Jonathan's last FM broadcast on 2-2-04.
