Hydros broadcast RECAP

KIRO-TV gave Pat more airtime than in years past...that's an improvement...

Also glad that it was Pat making the announcement re Chip Hanauer...

O'Day almost got stung by a bee on camera, but didn't make any attempt to SWAT!

Grade for this year's hydros coverage on KIRO-TV: B
******************************************************
BTW, how'd the RADIO do for the event this year?...anyone tune in?...

Since I just got back from the Lake I've only seen the first couple of heats (the Saturday ones). It looks to me like KIRO was shooting this one widescreen as on a number of shots all you saw on a standard screen was the roostertail of the lead boat.

(UPDATE: They definitely were shooting in widescreen, as evidenced by clips shown during their newscasts - some of which were squished to standard 4x3 size. Why do stations keep doing that? Idiots!)

As a matter of fact, KIRO was broadcasting the hydros in High Definition in full 1080i widescreen format. I have an HD-to-analog downconverter box hooked up to a Sony WEGA 27" 4x3 screen, and with the compression feature on the TV activated, the picture was really really pretty. It must have been gorgeous on an HDTV.
