Hypothetical Question about the former CBS-FM SuperStars

I posted this question on the Dentist's board but it got deleted. *Sniff* Sniff* *LOL*

If an Oldies station somewhere in the country wanted to hire some of the former CBS-FM SuperStars (I won't call them jocks), but couldn't afford to pay them the big bucks CBS-FM was paying them, do you think they'd take the job, just to continue being on the air?
______________

If they really love what they do, then they might. But, if they do love what they do and do not want to move, then thats a different story.
______________

I heard that Bob Shannon will NOT be moving to Tulsa.

Many posts get deleted at the dentist board. I am putting together my own "Bored Reflections" where I will make comments on comments made by Sniffen. I'll be posting the link here in the next few days.

As to your question, I don't think you'd find many of them moving to other parts of the country in the short term. Some or many are probably still under contract and will continue to get paid. I would think they will probably field offers for a while before deciding what to do.

Nah I also think their most of their egos would allow them to move to a smaller market just to fly the oldies flag.

Now, now, I don't think one of the reasons this board exists is to take potshots at other message boards...

But seriously... let me know if you need bumper music. ;)

But really seriously... I'd actually like to hear from Lance if this is okay for you to share... I'm all about free speech and everything, but I'd rather not start an unprofessional (flame) war with another message board. That's just my opinion.
______________

Since the oldies format in itself is losing stations across the country, it would make economic sense to go where more people can hear you - that being satellite radio. I'm still waiting for the first CBS-FM legend (Bill Brown?) to join XM in light of rival Sirius hiring Brucie.

For the record, that's probably why Allan deleted your post.
______________

I remember hearing Dick Heatherton playing standards via satellite on a station I was able to pull in from Lake Charles, Lose-e-anna. He was my favorite jock at WCBS-FM and was shown the door in 1986 by everyone else's buddy Joe McCoy. I don't know where Dick is now, but I don't think he is taking a subway to work where he is living. (At least not an MTA one).

And Max Kinkel, my second favorite is in the sticks way out in interior New Jersey, out of range of New York. I know that he was at 1050AM for a while, but now he is out of town. I wonder if he (reverse) commutes from the city to NJ?

That's a non-answer answer if there ever was one! (no text)

Dick Heatherton is a great guy. Last I heard he was doing sales for Salem in Los Angeles. But he could have moved on as that was at least 2 years ago...

Most of these CBS FM personalities are over 60. Chances are that they all have accumulated pensions as well as being elegible for Social Security. That being said some will in all likelihood retire when their contracts end.

Some though may well take a job at a smaller station for enjoyment mostly plus for money to suppliment their incomes. Financially the majority of personalities at CBS FM are in good shape. These are not 15,000 a year disc jockeys. Plus they stayed at the same place for a long time. With AFTRA they are well taken care of with the work they put in.

New York legends...

Bill Brown, a long-time friend and co-worker for a frightening
number of years, is indeed a legend. He is also rarely credited
for his unique professionalism and ability to sound so terrific
day after day - in the same format - playing the same songs.
He really is an inspiration!

Dick Heatherton, another pal mentioned here, is having a grand
time in sales. Still in Los Angeles and is doing quite well.

As for those of us who might not fit the "superstar" or "legend"
category (even if we're not yet in our 60's!) some of us -
me included - still enjoy this thing we call work.

Amazingly enough, after all these years, I still enjoy doing
whatever it is that I do. And, I am looking forward to doing
more of it - most likely in an area where the lifestyle is a
bit more appealing to me. Recently tried to move back to Houston,
but that one wasn't in the cards. However, I have no complaints
about the terrific run at CBS-FM, and look forward to attempting
to entertain a vast audience - somewhere - with my half-vast
style.

All good wishes to those of you still on the air - or considering
staying the course.

I apologize if I stepped over the line. I will refrain from further comments. Would it be alright if I just put a link in a post without any commentary?
