I-912 - KVI's Carlson

From "Letters to the Editor"/Seattle Times/8-9-05:

"...John Carlson states we should not spend $5.5 billion on rebuilding our roads because it won't solve congestion. It goes without saying that after the viaduct collapses in the next earthquake and the 520 bridge sinks from neglect, our commutes will all get much longer.

Joni Balter is far better reasoned. Her sentence, "Then along comes an initiative with no greater vision than boosting ratings and capturing anger whipped up in part by talk radio," sums it up perfectly. Talk radio is not accountable to anyone, except the ratings.

If you vote for Initiative 912, don't whine about the length of your commute in years to come..."

As to why this has anything to do with radio...well most listening is done in vehicles.

Carlson, of course, is swine. I say if they want to trash the Viaduct then go right ahead. San Francisco seems to get along just fine without a major, downtown Freeway (lost during the 89 quake). Just think of the noise pollution and viewing obstructions if they just took that little, antiquated freeway off the waterfront. Ask an engineer or geologist if they feel comfortable on the deck. Hell No!

Why can't DOT look into other options around the stadiums-Marginal Way area? Why is the answer always more freeways, more HOV lanes and more construction while my commute is at least 15 minutes shorter just by being able to read a map and avoid I-5. Why can't I ride a bike to work...sorry..

Everyday I watch thousands of cars sitting on I-5 while I'm hitting the brake a couple of times at lights, listening to tunes instead of traffic reports and cruising along at 30 or 40 while many others hit the on-ramp and...idle.

John Carlson can be counted on to have no answer to any of this.
