I 94

Ok, so if I'm one of the genius Dickey Brothers, here's what's rattling around my pea brain..."Fantastic! We bought Susquehanna at the top and paid through our noses! First order of business, piss on our territory by blowing up The Song just as it starts turning a corner and a profit. Then, we'll half-assed cobble together some lame excuse for a Talk station".

"What? A .01 Share? Indy already has a REAL news/Talk"? (Hmmm...Note to self, pay at least a smidge of attention to the market).

"Well, little Johnny, that didn't really work out and we're bleeding cash like there's no tomorrow".

"Ok, let's reach around to our asses and pull out another great idea. Eureka! Let's rip off our Cincinnati sister and launch WRRM. Yeah, Yeah, that's it, that's the ticket!"

"Oh boy, Lew! You have all the answers!"

Once again, 1 year later...

<gulp> "Ah, well, um...gee, that didn't seem to work out either. We're now hemorrhaging to beat the band and lost over half the employees in unprecedented time. Must stick head up ass again to see what piece of do-do I can grab this time around".

"I94Hits! Of course! It's not like there are TWO of these stations already in the market (right?)"

Plus a much stronger signal. And you can hear the conversations between Lew and Little Johnny about all this in your head. Problem is, they paid too much for Susquehanna because their egos tell them they can do it better. The proof is in the pudding. Running the Susquehanna stations has done nothing but harm those facilities. Cumulus should be taken behind the woodshed for crimes against everyone.

Is there a future for this frequency? I was at St. Vincent Women's Hospital today and you can't even hear a whisper of audio.

The future for 93.9 is a carousel of formats every 12-18 months as long as CumuSucks is at the wheel. Heck, even THEY can't bring themselves to call it 93.9 anymore because they have so shamefully trashed the frequency.

They throw crap at a wall and whatever sticks is what they call a radio station. Problem is, the only thing that sticks is...you guessed it...shit.

Why do they get paid the big bucks...can't make a winning decision to save their lives! How the hell do they keep their jobs while those of us who have done it right manage to end up on the editing room floor!

Jan Jeffries and Jeff Andrews know CHR. I 94 will have the best ratings 93.9 has ever seen. Billy Bush and a tight morning show starts soon. Radio Now is dead.

Jan Jeffries does NOT know CHR. He is out of touch and does not like too much "black music" on his Top 40's.
Jeff Andrews will simply be the scheduler, it's Jan who dictates the categories and rotations.
RadioNOW's listeners are used to a constantly aggressive, active station. They aren't likely to switch to a station banging songs that WNOU was banging 6 months ago.
And WZPL has long been a dominant Adult Top 40, and a big signal. Why would their listeners switch to a little scrappy upstart?

Best ratings they've ever had is not saying much. This station is dead in the water.

During the Bear Era after i moved from 104.5 was in the 4's before totally dying out as it turned into a jukebox. and i believe retro was sporting low 3's at a point, and the song was getting at least upper 1's. the Desicion to Drop the Song for FM Talk was stupid and killed the frequency.

4s? What demo. Saw your post and looked at arb books to '93. Not 12+ except during transitions in Spring 2002, Summer 2006 and Fall 2006. Had to leave the office and didn't look at other numbers. There were 2 country stations under one roof? Couldn't work today not enough product or advertising to go around.

in 93 the Bear was on 104.5 and WXTZ was on 93.9 at that time and the bear even as a Flanker to WFMS was getting 4's and sometimes 5' thats why they bounced the bear to 93.9 when they bought it in early 97.

Mike, don't understand. The Bear was at 104.5 and moved to 93.9 with big numbers? Maybe the group could make more cash with 2 different products?

Heritage CHR? It's an oxymoron. Heritage works in country and rock. Unless you are WFBQ.

Jan DOES know Top 40. He brought ratings back to KRBE, Q100 Atlanta numbers have improved under him, WZYP Huntsville #2, WHOT Youngstown tops Kiss.

"WHOT Youngstown tops Kiss.

Lets 24,500 Watt Class B WHOT would top a 6,000 Watt Class A Kiss in Youngstown. especially if the diaries are placed outside of WAKZ's City Grade SIgnal"

Ding! Not only that, WHOT has been Top 40 since the 1950's! Moved to FM in the early 80's.
What do they have now? A 6 share? I haven't looked for awhile. It was as low as the high 4's at one point.
In the 80's and 90's, they sounded incredible under different ownership, and they had 12 shares and higher 12+

WZYP? Doesn't have any competition, of course it's #2

Q100? As mentioned, Bert Show carries them, and WSTR lost focus for a few years. They're finding their niche again, sounding good, and trending up. There's a little battle brewing up there.

You're going to keep tooting the Jan Jeffries horn, no matter what everyone here says, so be it.

rubberchicken funnyguysmile is I94's new PD from WZYP in huntsville so he is drinking the Jan Jefferies Koolaid and Yes WZYP is the lone competition in Huntsville thus the reason why they are #2 in that market. and Mr PD needs to get his story's straight on Indianapolis Radio history when it comes to Where the bear was and has been on both 104.5 and 93.9

Lets see...if you think Radionow is doing CHR right, I want to know what your smoking!

If you think a real CHR pushes only new and current hits, I want to know where your head is.

A real, award winning, top ratings producing CHR should only play a maximum of 3 Hot Currents an hour, 2 Medium Currents and hour and ONE New Current an hour. The rest should be Gold, Recurrent, Super Recurrents and some decade splashes to keep it flowing.

So before you (chances are if you think Radio Now is doing it right) begin to think you know how to program CHR you might want to look into it a little better.

The bottom line is, Indianapolis is not Atlanta. It's not Houston. It's not Youngstown. It's not Rockford, or Huntsville, or Toledo, or the Quad Cities.
Yet they program every market identical.
Does WNOU sound like WSTR, WWWQ, or WBTS? Does it sound like KKHH, or KRBE? WAKZ? WVKS?
No to all.
Why?
Because it's programmed IN Indianapolis, FOR Indianapolis listeners.

Best of luck to i94 and WNOU! May the best team win!
