I am totally in love with the amount of dance style stuff that's been popping up lately!
As I listen to certain radio stations here in the Valley, it amazes me to hear how many new dance songs are popping up, and the order in which they are choosing to play certain songs in regular rotation!
AND THESE ARE STATIONS THAT USED TO BE ANTI-DANCE MUSIC!
The brand new one by Kristinia has made its way not only to one, but TWO stations here in Az, and the new Sean Kingston song "fire burning on the dancefloor", fully equipped with a hi hat and everything, has already made its way to the top 4 at 9 on 104.7 Kiss FM!
THEN!!!
We have the brand new Jeremih which has not only already had a chance to visit the top 4 at 9, but has also made its way to two stations in regular rotation as well, with the euro breaks, pop, and bass remix sounding 129 bpm uptempo remix of "birthday sex"!
AND THEN!!!
I never knew this song would eventually be a release in the U.S, but yesterday I heard "hush hush" by Pussycat Dolls, and it wasn't even the dance version I have or the slow boring version that only charted in Russia, it was some other dance remix I wasn't even aware of, ALSO FULLY EQUIPPED WITH THE HI HAT and everything! The song starts off with a slow half-time beat, and when I first began to hear it play, I was thinking "what is this now??? there's something different about this.. something is most likely about to happen with this song, so let me keep it on this station because I have a feeling it might..." Then next thing I know, BAM!
I BECAME THE VICIM OF AN ASSAULT!
I was hit in the face with a house beat that lasted throughout the remainder of the song! Now, keep in mind, they could have just played the original version of this song, and Jeremih could have just stuck with the original version of "birthday sex"...etc, but no.
THESE VERSIONS ARE NOW BEING CREATED AND CHOSEN OVER THE SLOWER VERSION!
It's still unbelievable to me how much times have changed in music, and what's even more unbelievable is that I am JUST NOW getting to the part I really wanted to discuss in this topic - the arrangement in which songs are being played in regular rotation on certain stations now! There are times when you can turn on our rhythmic leaning top 40 KZZP and it would sound like a top 40/dance station! They'll play things like "day 'n' nite" crookers remix, followed by ne-yo's "closer" then Pitbull's "calle ocho" then Black Eyed Peas "boom boom pow" and Lady GaGa, Britney, 3 Oh! 3, Flo Rida,....etc all back to back, and will continue to do this for an incredible amount of time! THEN on top of this, Just about every night for the past two weeks, 75% of the Top 4 at 9 has been filled with songs at least 125 bpm or higher, and many times 50% or more of those songs contained straight up house beats! Well, I guess I must be a skeptic, because sometimes
I JUST CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT'S HAPPENING IN MUSIC TODAY!
And not only that, if you look at your calendar, you will notice that it's Friday, so you already know what that means, and can probably imagine the level of excitement I am in at the time... (Electro House and Hip Hop, KKFR...etc.)
I hear all this talk about the flu, but this swine flu, which is less deadly in percentage when it comes to car accidents or even the regular flu,
DOESN'T EVEN COMPARE TO THE OUTBREAK OF DANCE HITS POPPING UP, WHICH HAS ALREADY STARTED HAPPENING, AND IS BEGINNING TO TAKE OVER TOP 40 RADIO ON A PANDEMIC LEVEL!
You now have a HIGHER CHANCE at hearing a dance styled song in REGULAR ROTATION while randomly checking into your local top 40 station here in the U.S. for about 6 minutes OR LESS, than you do of dying, or even catching this "pandemic flu"! And if I were the media and it was up to me, this would be the story I'd choose to hype up and cover, 24/7! Geraldo Riviera stands out in the middle of the ocean or somewhere shouting with winds and stuff blowing in the background whenever they think a storm is coming, and
I'LL BE THE ONE STANDING IN FRONT OF A RADIO STATION WITH DANCE HITS IN THE BACKGROUND, TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING THAT'S ALREADY HAPPENING AND IS HERE, NOW!
Well, these are certainly exciting times in music, and as always, I must remind everyone that the most exciting part of all this is not only what's happening now, but the fact that everything that's happening now opens the doors for many possibilities when it comes to the long run of things in the dance music genre/community. Just looking and thinking back to 3 or 4 years ago today, I couldn't say 80% of the stuff I've just mentioned here and consider it non-fiction. Now there is a pandemic of dance hits coming. Forget about the flu.
2009 is BIG and it's like a whole new generation of sound is taking over!
