I am so beat down that I am finally taking the plunge

Nope, I am not throwing myself out of the window after listening to the crap they play on the buzz all day while I am work. I am though, going to purchase the stileto 2 from Siruis on my lunch break so I can listen to something while I am at work. I just can't take it anymore, the same 5 songs (I'm exagerating I know) all freaking day long! They folks over at CC put me one FOO fighter song over the edgeAND I AM DONE!. I'll give a review of my new purchase in a few days.

Checkout the Sirius "Buzzsaw" station... the number escapes me, but they are great!! "Classic Hard Rock" what a concept... tailor made for an old rocker like myself.

if you want REAL alternative, I would recommend XM over Sirius. but even Ethel has songs with 30 spins a week on it now. :(

Ok, just got back from a local retailer with my Stileto 2 in hand and activated. A couple of issues up front, RECEPTION!. No signal in my cube farm (3rd floor center of room), I can get a signal towards the outside near a window, but no signal nonetheless. Navigation is simple and straight forward screen is easy to read etc. About the signal problems, the unit has a feature to deal with the signal problems. Leave the unit on overnight and it records the stations you want to listen to the next day.i am completley willing to put up with this! Houston radio is so bad I am willing to to put up with these problems just to get something remotely listenable.

Congratulations, and welcome to the revolution. Feels good, doesn't it?

Aunti

THanks! And it does feel good! I am still feeling my way around the unit (minds out of the gutter). I will admit, the reception problem is a pain but thanks to WI-FI I just connect to an open network and I am off and running. Sorry houston radio advertisers but you lost me, I had to make the change, you guys in the radio biz left me no choice, your stubborn, arrogant, and you refuse to change. I bought the three year package, it averages aout to about 10 cents per channel per month. :)

Radio deserves to lose every single listener it has. Face it, ever since "deregulation", the radio business has been run by accountants (Sorry, accountants. No offense intended!) When accountants run businesses, disaster ensues. The only way an accountant knows how to address a problem is by cutting costs. Never, in their thought process, does it occur to them to IMPROVE THE PRODUCT! That would cost money. Meanwhile, they sit around and make up excuses for why the company is losing money. Naturally, they have a tendency to blame "external forces", or the proliferation of mp3 players, satellite radio, or the internet, when, in fact, if they just FIXED the problems, they'd get a good many of their listeners back. "Cutting back" has become radio's "National Disease". Here's how it shakes out:

Declining ratings: Cut the playlist.
Declining sales: Cut the budget.
Declining cumes: Cut the airstaff
Declining revenue: Hire more AE's

That's another thing: Prior to 1996 B.C. (Before Consolodation), an AE could make some pretty darned good money selling air time and could work the majority of their career at one station. Heck, they could even retire! Today? Fagehdaboutit. They're starving, just like the airstaff because most stations have three times more AE's than they need. It's just typical accountant mentality.

Oh, InTIMadate: Fredthehead won't be back. There are far too many alternatives to radio. No one's coming back until radio is REPAIRED, and the egos at play in the "topheavy-with-management" business of radio won't allow it until the last share of stock weighs in at 5-cents a share and everybody loses their job.

Nope, not when someone takes the time to sneer at him on a public board. It's not just the lack of variety and the mind-numbing repetition of safe songs, it's the arrogance of those who could have changed his perception. Again, Fred, congrats on taking a stand---and putting your purchasing power behind your decision. Happy listening!

It's Sirius 19. Try out 15, 16, 19, 20, and my favorite 27 "Hard Attack". Makes the old Z-Rock here in Houston sound like Sunny.

Terrific! Then I hope you will all move today over to the Stilato-2 website board and stop cluttering up a radio board with your constant whining.

Since Fedthehead is no longer a radio listener, can we get his written committment not to darken this RADIO board again?

Tim, since when did you get appointed moderator around here? You really don't have the right to determine WHO posts. You lost a listener...sorry, you don't get to control Fred's postings any more than you can control his wallet.

Really, did I think he would stop?

That's fine. We all know early adapters that were in love with their gadgets for awhile. Just wait until Mel has his way and your fees start climbing. It it too rude to ask him to voluntarily take his whining off a board dedicated to what's happening in Radio if he's not going to listen to radio?

Yep, just checked. The site is still called Radio-Info, and Sirius offers a product called Satellite Radio.

I've all but stopped listening to the radio for music. It's all watered down and edit versions of a song they play too many times. The only thing I listen to on the radio is Walton and Johnson, and maybe flip to the sports channels in the afternoon. And I'm not a sports guy at all. I just know I will at least hear something different each day. Some days, I just plug in my Zune and stick it on shuffle.

Tim, in addition to your last, blatantly racist post, I think you know you've overstepped the bounds of decorum. He is listening to radio...satellite radio. Did you lose your job or something today?

When do folks like Tim finally get the message and get on board with the other 95%?
Stop ignoring the truth and face it.
Somewhere, the business got the customer confused with the supplier and the customer went elsewhere to have their needs filled.

I do both! Sirius is good in the car for my daily 40 minute commute and in the office (or home) when I just need some continuous tunes.

But I also like local radio for traffic and sports -- call-in talk shows bore the hell out of me, which is not really surprising, inasmuch as I have produced a TON of them and after awhile they all sound the same.

Super Shuffle (Sirius-12) is my current fave....eclectic listener.

Geesh Tim what did I ever do to you or this board? I love radio and I hate to watch it go down the tubes while the powers that be think nothing is wrong. This is my only place as a listener to vent my frustrations. Sorry that someone pee'd in your cornflakes yesterday, but lighten up dude. I just feel like I had no choice but to move over to sat. RADIO is it a perfect solution for my needs? If I can get a signal it's great but it is far from perfect. I'm sure the technology will improve over time, but I want to make sure that the folks in the biz in Houston know that they are not putting out a very good product.
