I am sorta annoyed here

I'm not looking for a fight it's just that I am annoyed when I read that people don't like Nickelback on here. I love them. It's the kind of band that all rock bands should be like. I never hear anything bad about like Slipknot or Deftones which I can't stand. Please stop dissing Nickelback. Thank you.

Did you not read the rules? You are not allowed to like popular artists or hit songs. You are only allowed to like obscure acts that no one has ever heard of, or if you insist on liking a song by a popular act, it has to be some deep album cut that everybody skips over. You must never, ever, ever admit you like "Freebird".

Likewise for radio stations. If you like any stations at all, it has to be some little backwoods one-man operation who plays nothing but his favorite songs from cue-burnt 45s to an audience of one. Saying anything nice about a station owned by an entity with shareholders or any "bean counters" on staff is strictly forbidden.

;D

I dont hate Nickleback...I feel they need alittle harder edge to their music but its not bad.
People like all different kinds of Rock.. There is Hardrock, Metal, and cheese wiz alternative!but you
shouldnt mix alternative with Hardrock or metal.

aggreed. They don't mix as well as, say, the rock music of the 70s, where you could play Dan Folgeberg, Kiss, Boz Scaggs, Tom Petty, Queen, Player, Linda Rosdant ect. and get away with it....

Ok so I just got done watching the movie FM.

Nickelback belongs on Hot AC or active rock, not alternative. Neither does Metallica. Doesn't fit the "Gen X" brand alternative stations brand themselves.

Personally, I liked the early Nickelback, but they became another Creed to me after Silver Side Up. Can't stand to listen to them anymore.

Im amazed at this absurd post. How can anybody like butt crack. They continue to make awful music. The convenience store plays the CHR station and when Im in there I tolerate whatever garbage is on. However, last night a new Nickelback song was on and I told the Indian guy that it's terrible. The flip flop wearing floosie behind me actually agreed with me. "Yeah, um, Nickleback is like so bad." I agreed with her but thought to myself you still listen to DMB you c**t. The clerk, said, I do not like this either. I miss the music of India. I just play for the customers." I then offered to let him borrow my Cornershop CD.

Talk about an absurd post!

Show me how many units of your Cornershop CD has sold compared to sales of DMB's?
Then ask who is the c*nt.

Next illogical post please.

Sales have never mattered. The average person lacks taste in music and some of the greatest bands have never properly received the respect they deserve.

Cornershop have always been one of those bands with loads of potential. They're a very creative band and I'm a big fan, but the problem is that they're difficult to pigeonhole - that has contributed to their weak sales in the U.S. That and a lack of strong label support. They managed to get one radio hit ("Brimful Of Asha"), but that was it - not for lack of effort, of course. Of course, maybe they would be more popular if they had released more than 2 albums in the last 11 years ... are they even still around anymore?

DMB sells lots of albums, sure. But they're hit and miss, and their studio output has gotten progressively weaker. They're one of those bands that fall in the same category as Phish and OAR - excellent live bands who are usually unable to translate the same magic in the studio. Of course, they're far more accessible than Phish, and that's why they have a few platinum albums under their belts.

Nickelback is easily one of the worst bands in recorded music today. I would compare them to Journey, Styx and Foreigner, but as awful as those bands were, at least some of the members were very solid instrumentalists. Not only do their songs sound exactly alike(http://www.thewebshite.net/nickelback.htm), but their generic sound is a derivative of Creed and countless other post-grunge bands, and their lyrics are beyond atrocious. They either read like a bad Hallmark card (http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/n/nickelback/far_away.html - "Far Away"), or something a Neanderthal would write (http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/n/nickelback/figured_you_out.html - "Figured You Out"). And they show no signs of changing: The first single "Gotta Be Somebody" is glossy commercial dreck for soccer moms at its worst, they have Mutt Lange (who has worked with the brilliant Shania Twain and Def Leppard, among others) producing, and the new album has song titles like "Something In Your Mouth" and "S.E.X.". I find it astonishing that a band that is this lacking in any kind of talent can be so popular. But then again, we're a nation that considers Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Soulja Boy Tell Em, and others to be "geniuses". We definitely have a bunch of Einsteins walking among us, that's for sure.

I'll surprise you here, but in my opinion Foreigner, Journey, and even Styx to a lesser degree are not that bad. They were all good at what they did. It's trendy for us Indy hipsters to laugh at those bands, but truthfully they're alright. I even enjoyed watching REO Speedwagon live on a Public TV telethon recently. Kevin Cronin is such a nice guy that despite making music that's not really my bag he and his band are spared my wrath. If I had a free ticket to see any of the above mentioned bands I would go. I would never see Nickelback under any circumstances. And, if they made any appearance on a Public show to raise money I would cancel my membership and expect others to do the same. They are a true scourge on society.

I was listening to Cornershop the other night and agree that if they consistently stuck with a certain sound instead of swithing from rock to dance and back they would be more successful.

I was too young and probably too immature to appreciate Cornershop when they were getting the critical praise (around 97/98) but have been meaning to look into it. There's still no way they'll ever see real success in the U.S. There are just too many twists and turns that mainstream audiences will never grow to accept (kind of like Pulp). However, the argument of "Oh yeah, well how come Cornershop hasn't sold that many units?" is about as tired as all the Nickelback sound-alike ballads. Michael Bolton has sold a lot of records, so did Milli Vanilli. Need I say more?

However, I must jump to the defense of the Jonas Brothers. Sure, they're a total teen pop sensation and I can't say I listen to them but they do make a great traditional guitar pop group. Once they grow up a little and the majority of their fanbase grows out of them, I see them going the way of Hanson, where they still put out great pop records and play to their core fanbase in clubs and theatres across the country.

DMB, I can take em or leave em, but I respect their ability to mostly stay out of the spotlight yet still fill ampitheatres summer after summer.

To whoever started this thread: please don't ever participate in any radio/music focus groups. You'll be doing society a favor in helping to stop the dumbing-down of American media.

Nickelback is what I view as generic rock.
A manufactured product of the record industry...Hallmark lyrics, $1000 haircuts, and music that doesn't differentiate one song from another.....wake me up when it's over...ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz........
