I am very dissappointed at the new format at 92.7 :(

Well on the positive side they did not take the moniker the zone so when cbs gets rid of jamz for good it is good to go but cmon phoenix radio is old school rap the best you can do??? Geez i am so excited another rhythmic station. You should have kept energy if this was the end result

I said it before and i will say it again phoenix did not need another rhythmic station!!!

You said it right!

Count them:

92.7 & 99.3 (& 101.1) - The Beat
95.1 Latino Vibe
Movin' 97.5
Power 98.3
101.5 Jamz
Mega 104.3
104.7 Kiss FM

Rhythmic, Old School & Hip Hop...that's way too many.

We can almost guarantee that somebody else is going to flip now. Hopefully, KZON goes back to the Zone, and Movin' 97.5 starts injecting some current dance. Maybe the Beat will fail, but I have a feeling that the format wheel will return to Phx again shortly.

I agree, way too much "beat" in the valley.

Jamz needs to go and go in the Zone
Movin needs to add Pistol Pete to evenings and go Energy Arizona Nightside

Any mention of jocks for The Beat? I guess if they get Kid and Ruben the format makes sense

There has to be a station in PHX that can do what 9FM in Chicago did with their Dance Factory every night and weekends.

A classic Hip Hop Station makes sense,
We have alterantive rock, rock and classic rock in the valley,There's enough music with the last 3 decades to support classic Hip Hop here in Phoenix, so with that being said it falls within the guidlines of Radio in a large city something for everyone to flip thru the dial and find what they like to hear.

i really liked the stunting with 'random ipod' format.

But, it sticks Mega formatically between Movin' and The Beat - and it takes away Mega's primary way of reaching Phoenix by taking over the 99.3 translator. It might get 101.1 over the reporting line at the expense of 104.3.

There are way too many Rhythmic and Hip Hop stations on FM. Many formats are not represented or represented well in Phoenix. Dance is now one of them, along with easy listening (or something like 97.5 used to be), a true oldies station, classic alternative rock, 80's music, and instrumental music (something like 102.1 up in Prescott).

We did not need another rap station! ::)

Doesn't Lumberyard 1440 count? ;)

Yeah, kinda of. It's not like other markets where a true oldies channel is on FM, like WLS-FM in Chicago. Also, 1440 AM is not a legitimate representation of the format in that it is not on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Sierra and Riviera are not 'valley stations'.

nobody can hear them. 2 horse race. kiss and the zone...errr....jamz.

Which is Gumpdusky's fault for not using their flamethrower :D
52-watt authorization at night.

Then there are the random interruptions such as Colon Blow,
and of course they'd have to reprogram the lamptimer for
"raise/lower" rather than "on/off."

BTW, for those of you keeping score this month (November),
daytime power/pattern is 7:00am-5:30pm MT.

I'm not opposed to having Classic Hip Hop on the air, but let's get rid of at least one of the other stations playing Hip Hop in PHX. I'd much rather have a dance outlet (at least at night).

The Beat sounds good - it wont be only "Old Skool Hip-Hop" forever tho. It cant be that for long. Not enough ammunition for ANY programmer. They will have to pick a path to evolve. Current R&B songs, slow jams, or current hip hop songs, dance, whatever. Choose right and you are a niche station people remember for a long time- choose wrong at you are Movin 975. EVERY station evolves - period

I disagree with the last post.

Classic hip hop is by its very definition an evolving format.

You don't have to sprinkle in some Urban AC currents or whatever to "evolve."

You just have to wait a year or two for that new T.I. track to become a classic, and VOILA.

In this way, a classic hip-hop station is actually in much better position than a classic rock station.

In other words, every week, some hip hop joints from the past are retiring from recurrent/gold status at the other 12 local hip hop outlets and are therefore becoming available to The Beat. The only question is will they capitalize on this fact or let the format atrophy into the same few songs being burned straight into the ground.

I agree with 2Sons comment: Lets hope DANCE returns to the Phx terrestrial airwaves.

Eat hot sauce every day with every meal, and it gets old. Thats why the "recurrents" on 975 drag that station down now. I LOVE the Beats format - but unless you change it a little -if you keep hearing the Geto Boys in its SAME rotation as it is now - and it will be super toasty by Jan-Feb. While its a "new" format - and you get to make your own rules, ta gotta be careful which path you take with it.
