I can't take it no more!

Longtime reader, first time poster

While I wish him well, and have come to understand that it's "nothing personal-just business" - here are some of Lazlo's 'greatest hits' as I remember them, enjoy!

8.The FU line
7.There's no difference between Seattle and Kansas City, the same movies are #1 and 'Under the Bridge'
is the top testing song...
6.I don't ever want to hear Led Zeppelin mentioned on this station again...
5.'Immigrants Day at the Ballpark'
4.Offering me a fellow jock's shift, unbeknowst to them, with all intentions on demoting the person back to their old promotions job...
3.I don't give a s**t about music, I care about 2 things- ratings & revenue!...
2.I will be #1 within a year!...
1.To be #1, we have to have 'the best' on air, and that means me taking over afternoons...

i'm just sorry I wasn't around to see the ushering in of the request taking robot era :)

Cheers then!

From the sounds of it, this station is running on fumes with no signs of it getting any better. I just wish another station would pop up in town, hire some of the market vets familiar with the alt format, and finally put the end out its misery.

Best of luck to you Dick. I always enjoyed listening to you on air.

Thanks buddy, I miss being there for you...

Upon refelction let me offer one last 'awesome, jaw dropping, say it ain't so 'bonus cut', that someone had reminded me of:

His holiness going apes**t on a fellow PD and then up the Entercom chain of command to make sure that I wasn't allowed in the bldg. to sub for Marty Reimer on the Mountain 2 weeks last year...

Godspeed to those that I shared the 'foxhole of the creatively underwhelmed' with:

Jim 'big daddy' Keller
Andrew 'just another sexy bald guy' Harms
DJ No Name
Rob 'punchcard' Femer
The great Tommy Hough
Jennifer Wisbey
Sarah

d-ro thanks for posting! I sure hope you didn't burn any bridges by doing so. I also loved your show and am very tired of the constant changes at 107.7...I was not a fan of "it's about the music" bs era before lazlo either, but I do feel that the station sounded best for a short time in between these two PD's when you, No Name, Keller, Harms, Tommy and the rest were doing your jobs and making the station sound great again. Who cares if you talk over the into of the song a little...and who cares about someones rant on a stupid fu line...

If any of you (former End jocks)need airchecks of yours let me know. I have many hours of them recorded from years gone by in my personal archives that go back to 1995.

D-ro,

Ya know... I hear that one of the radio stations in town has an "FU" line. Maybe you should give 'em a call.

I was seriously half-tempted to do so myself (FU to Lazlo the Midwest out-of-towner who is wrecking a local institution... hmmm... where else have I heard that?), but I figured they'd either screen me out or he might derive some pleasure from it.

re:pSAIRCHECKS: thanks for your burning bridge concern, the only one that I could've burned doesn't concern me. I work in an office nowadays. As for the 'foxhole of creatively underwhelmed', let me clarify by saying that was not a shot at any of those mentioned, I have all the respect in the world for them, a better suited word would've been the Archie Bunker-esque 'ceatively stifled'...

re:calling the FU line, i know, right? :-*

Imagine if you work banker's hours and listen to The End. You drive in and hear nothing but Adam Carolla. Drive home, and you might hear two songs without Lazlo yapping. Another couple of songs will cost you about 10 minutes worth of yak in between. Seven or eight songs an hour.

Powers and Marcus D can bang out 11 to 13 songs an hour and still be entertaining to 18 to 34s. Why is that?

Under The Bridge might be the best testing song in KC and Seattle, but believe it or not, your listeners want to hear it once in awhile.

Amen AQH! Mamma agrees. The END was a great station. Listen to KNRK they actually play some music that 18-34 boys and girls care aobut. I grew up on that station theEND and KUBE and when in Seattle now listen to Movin as my primary and my ipod for the best alternative cuts cause they ain't on the radio in Seattle anymore and on and off in PDX. Mamma is sad.

The END does fine, just the music ain't what it used to be 8)
The days of Seattle alternative with Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden are long gone :'(
As a result it is talk that seems to appeal to males on radio these days if you look at Seattle numbers (rivers, bj, ron and don) :-\
Guess maybe the solution for the END is to hybrid toward FM talk before KBSG or someone else beats em to it. Just an observation ;)

"The music ain't what it used to be?" What music? From what I gather, there's barely any music left on The End in mornings or afternoons.

"The days of Seattle alternative with Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden are long gone." Yes, but while your statement is correct, do you mean to say there's been no air-worthy music for End listeners since 1991? Come on. That's a lazy excuse.

There IS music out there, GREAT alternative rock, and it isn't Panic At the Disco. Alternative stations need to roll up their sleeves and find it if they want to survive, just as what few alternative stations there were before 1991 did. It takes time, it takes effort, and it takes care. With the volume of music coming into radio stations today, there's no excuse. There is good music. Test it, run with it, make it work. If you're a PD with too many stations in the cluster to run, delegate to your MD and APD to find that great music. Get behind it and play it. Repeat as necessary, use it to your advantage, and spike in your grunge favorites from the Pearl Jam/Nirvana/Soundgarden glory days in the gold category as needed. Those bands still have legs.

This isn't rocket science. TALKING isn't what you go to an alternative station for. Chances are, you go there because you're choosing NOT to hear talk, or at least, excessive talk. There's still room for two good alternative stations in Seattle.

First of all if Lazlo wants to do what he's continuing to do than he might as well just change the format of the End to Hot Talk because that's the majority of the programming coming from this "Alternative music station.
Lazlo is a low renter plain and simple, I got news for ya Lazz, it may have worked in KC but it ain't going to work here!
NOW... if Lazlo and what's left of the end management staff want to learn something and save their radio station they will read and re-read this post - do it slowly if you have to to ensure you get the details.
1. I don't care if you don't care about music, this station was BUILT on music! put your damn ego aside - an no you will NOT be # 1 in this market not doing the terrible radio you do. That being said get more music and more NEW music on the station.
Have Harms subscribe to CMJ, go onto the BBC's site where they have a new music channel, hear what they're playing and find some gems you can break here.

2. - Have Harms listen to some of the top Alternative stations, listen to what they're playing and while you're at it Lazz, listen to some of them yourself so you can see what works and what doesn't.

3. - expand your playlist! you're not a CHR station so don't be redundant with your music!

4. - Here's the biggie - dump that crap ass Adam Carolla show, it's boring, tired, same old thing day in and day out.
Get some damn funding, dig in the budget and put together a stellar and I do mean stellar morning show, make it your mission - besides being #1 in the market to also have the #1 morning show in the market.
Scour the country looking for either a young talented established show you can bring to Seattle OR even better, assemble one! get some talented people from around the country, some really creative up and comers who want to work hard, play some great music and be a part of a heritage station.
I figure you'll need at least a Host, Co Host , a hard working Producer from the local area someone who can really keep the show local, keeping the talent honest so they don't sound obviously like out of towners that can explain inside jokes that Seattlites get but others don't who'll schedule some compelling guests - 2 at most a day and who keeps the show running like a .427 Chevy engine and lastly a Producer/Production whiz who can be in the backround putting together great bits and audio, the kind that people will talk about 10-15 years from now.
The kind that people wax poetic about when they're drinking with their friends 20 years from now with a "Hey ya remember the great bit so and so did?

Add in some programming elements that are fun, engaging and sponsorable and heck we've hit some of the other tennents of what Lazzie-pooh cares about - ratings & revenue!
Oh my god! How do I do it? I even amaze myself sometimes!
In all seriousness, take these suggestions, do something with them, I'm in your demo, a 17 year radio vet who's worked in some big markets and who is currently employed in this market take these along with my earlier posts that you can re look at if you missed them these are can't miss!
THIS will save the end, a station I love and I know many others do too, C'mon Lazlo, lock yourself in your office with a carton, a coffee maker, your PC and phone, you can do it!
Hell get the little guy Harms involved too, make him do some of the work while you're on the air, become what you say you're gonna become and have a kick ass stationj at the same time.
