I declare this the OFFICIAL WECK THREAD

Google Alerts keep drawing me to this board.

I'd love to discuss what I/we are up to at WECK and make this a nice open forum for people within (or who at least understand) the industry to have a conversation about our effort to make a place for ourselves in the market.

Go.

Hey Brad,

Good idea. Here are a few quite thoughts from a former sales rep (account executive may be the term you are using now) in terms of your Manifesto discussion with Corey Griswold. You guys talked about other people in the market knocking on the door and wanting to come work at WECK/WLVL. If that's true, that's great! I hope one or two are experienced sales reps because you will need their services.

But sales and talk about sales guys and gals is boring. My suggestions on people to try and bring on board:

1. Danny Gare - He's back in WNY and wants to stay here. Give him the gig of being the Sabres beat guy for all the home games. Get him locker room access and talk to him before AND after every home game live at the arena and have him phone in his thoughts on the road games. Make your station unique and allow a true hockey guy who doesn't work for the team (Robitaille, Ray, Sylvester) to truly speak his mind and not worry about getting lectured. I like Paul Hamilton but I assume he's staying at GR until Jeanneret retires and he applies for the play-by-play job (I think he's got a chance to get it.)

2. Joe DeLamielleure - The guy was GREAT on GR for the past few years. Never heard or learned why he wasn't brought back this season. Maybe he lives out of town? Even so, have him phone in each Monday to review Bills games and then each Friday to preview the next game. Great insight and a name guy with credibility.

3. Evil Jim - He goes by "James" now on The Edge but if things get screwy over there and major changes happen he may be out of a job. He's funny and talented. Make him an offer now and find a place for him. Not sure where he goes, but you can make it work.

4. Jeremy White. Hear me out - you and Jeremy doing morning drive. I think that would work, For example, I'm 55 but I would definitely listen to you two in the morning over any other curent morning show. My two boys are in their early 20s and I'm telling you a morning show of Riter and White would make them become regular WECK listeners. It would be wild. Think about it.

5. Barry Beutel - The best hockey analyst this town ever had on the radio. I tried to help another station steal him from GR in the early 1990s but the owner bailed out at the last moment. WE HAD HIM! Oh well. I have NO idea where he is now, but bring him back. let him take over your afternoon show and talk a lot about hockey. This is something that makes you VERY attractice for the Sabres/Pegula when the Sabres radio contract comes up. If you had Gare and Beutel already on staff that gives you some power in negotiations.

Thanks for listening. WECK can make a difference but you need to shake up the lineup and get some feet on the streets and sell, sell, sell, sell, sell...

Something tells me that's exactly what Dick Greene is trying to do: sell, sell, sell, sell, sell...

Whew. At last we have an OFFICIAL thread, and another declaration from THE MAN - if, indeed, "BRADonWECK" is the real Brad Riter. I felt so dirty discussing WECK on those other threads, like some hoodlum hanging out in the back room of a sleazy corner bar with a bunch of other jamokes.

Before I have much to discuss, I'd kind of like to know just what niche you're trying to carve out. You're targeting "Entercom". Well, they have a successful news/talk station on AM, and they have a viable (note I didn't say successful) sports station on AM. They even have a lib-talk station hiding at the end of the dial. So, which one are you targeting, or what other niche are you looking to establish?

It kind of reminds me of some advice I heard from a veteran jock. An enthusiastic youngster once said, "When I grow up, I want to be in radio." This wise radio vet replied, "Sorry, kid, you can't do both."

I think the aim is to become an alternative to WGR with some "guy talk" mixed in to try and find listeners who have grown tired/bored of Bauerle and Beach and may be flipping around during PM drive when the highly successful Shredd And Ragan take their commercial breaks.

Brad is not sure what he wants to do. He's got a plan in his mind to hurt Entercom but the strategic plan for the short-term has not been visualized and the long-term master plan is not even on the drawing board.

He's got some buddies (Scotty Wilson, Corey Griswold, Nicky Mendola, Dan Cave... or is it Cabe?) some jobs and allows a few other fellas he likes (Bobby Gaughan, Timmy Graham, those WNY Media bloggers, the one writer from SI dot-com) to get some air time but then treats a few quality guests (Jim Fink in particular) with disrespect and mocks them when they aren't on the air.

I want WECK to succeed but Brad MUST show he is committed to making some major changes to try and improve the ratings. He may have to rearrange some schedules (including his own) and make some difficult decisions, which he is going to be closely watched to do within the next 2-3 months.

The official WECK thread is up and running. WATCH IT GROW!!!!!

So, you're saying that Brad is calling out the competition, and he doesn't even have a game plan? Oooh. That should have Entercom shaking in their boots.

Get rid of those liberal a**es from WNY Media. You should be ashamed to have someone on the air constantly (Bendicko) who would support a story that says F... the Troops. Until these guys are off your station I will not a a listener.

Get rid of FoxNews as the news outlet for top of the hour updates and pick up CNN.

So Brad on WECK...was the topic to "horseradish" hot for you? What say you about Bendicko and F...The Troops? How can you invite these crazed liberals on your station? Dick Greene should be ashamed to be associated with that profane website.

I've got Mendola on right now while puttering around the house and this is just not very good.

Again, Nick sounds like a really nice guy and he has his moments, but he's mentioning the phone number and throwing all sorts of facts and topics at the wall but nothing is sticking and no one is reacting.

He needs a co-host. A serious one, not the producer chirping in from time to time or some intern giggling at his jokes.

Maybe it's the time slot? Other than radio nerds, not many people are listening to local talk after 7 p.m.

I'll keep listening but it is not blowing me away.

But congrats to Nick for getting Consumer Beverages as a sponsor. He does do a nice job with those live reads.

I have another nice thing to say about WECK.

The Sports Insiders is a good program. Just listened to the first hour while on my treadmill.

The boys from The Buffalo News and Joe Major keep it entertaining and informative. Lots of hoops talk, which I know most people don't get from GR or the other shows on WECK.

Sounds like they also have their exclusive advertisers on that show. Good stuff!

I have to say that George really has a good read on WECK and I agree with most everything he has said in the different thread. Nick does seem like a really good guy and I hope he can get better at hosting. I think he does a good job when reporting, and especially play by play.

The one thing he left out is that I love when Scott Wilson is on with Brad. I think they are very funny together. Much like Brad and Jeremy were great together (Brad & Jeremy on morning drive would be very interesting, I have to agree)

Get rid of those liberal a**es from WNY Media.
If WECK wants to be taken seriously in political discussion, this is necessary. Most of their writing is childish, profane hyper-liberal trolling. They make DailyKos seem tame.

2. Joe DeLamielleure - The guy was GREAT on GR for the past few years.
No. No. Joe D is a nice man, but he has zero knowledge of football from the last 20 years and is so awkwardly bad on radio.

Another tip: Stop getting drunk while you're on the radio. Mendola was embarrassing and rude at your "birthday party". Your station sounds amateur enough as it is with how cheap Dick Greene is, at least try to control yourself.

Well..guess that says it. (not me)

Scott Wilson sounded quite tipsy too.

Oh well, at least they had fun.

Fans of WECK are spreading word via social media of a "major announcement" that Brad will reveal tomorrow on WECK.

Anyone know what time? I'm in between sales calls and won't be near my computer after I post this message until 3-ish.

Hopefully it addresses Brad's ongoing discussions about how Nick Mendola doesn't get enough air time now that the Yanks are on the air almost every weekday evening.

Just don't try to tell me that Brad's going to try to get up in time to do mornings...
