I DON'T GET WHAT'S GOING ON WITH TRAFFIC REPORTS

It's my understanding that a couple of months ago Metro let people go and reports would come out of Boston. Then once the dust settled the same voices are being heard anyway and I doubt they're broadcasting out of Boston. Now there are some new voices. I heard Ron Medeiros on WPRO-AM yesterday and I assume they use Metro. Some of the same radio voices are on Ch 12 too. Then Ch 10 has their traffic reports which I assume are not Metro. Then there's obviously CC traffic reports which are a different thing. I could be wrong on all of this but who exactly provides traffic reports and where are they out of? Is this becoming a safe haven for habitually unemployed radio people to hang out until the broadcasting industry turns around, which by the way will be never?

Notice one thing in common with all of them?

From the Gem On Time Traffic Center

Gem Plumbing is now the employer of a lot of the traffic reporters. Citadel got rid of Metro, mainly because they were dissatisfied with how it was being handled. Rumor is that the Gem Boys are sweeping up a lot of other stations as well.

The brick and mortar is gone, but Metro realized they still need people in the market, so the same employees are working throughout the market. People working at ABC6, WPRI, and Citadel occasionally, I think.

I've notice Gem Traffic reports on the Worcester Citadel stations, too. WXLO, the Pike and Oldies 98.9.

The reports up there sound strained..like it's obvious that they're coming out of Providence (or somewhere other than the immediate Worcester metro) and the reporters have no concept of the Worcester area roadways and landmarks. Yet another strike against the sound of truly local radio that sets it apart from syndication and ipods.

And when they do a report, it's 15 seconds worth of report and 30 seconds worth of commercial. How tranparent can you get ?

I never thought I'd hear myself say it, but "bring back Metro..please !"

Its not Metro anymore. Vic and Gina seem to have gotten out of non competes(as well as Shaina and Big John I guess)

Like I said, Citadel as a whole was very unhappy with the way Metro was handling the transition. They canned Metro in this area.

And what else is new with the 30 seconds of commercial? It's always been that way, at least the spots make since now, before, it was like the janitor was writing the copy for Metro.

How does this affect WCTK? Big John wasn't on this week. Jay Rogers was doing traffic. Are they using Metro or Gem? Gem, by the way, is my heating & plumbing company. They do good work & are very service oriented so hopefully that mentality will carry over. I hope they don't let the traffic people wear those little plastic booties over their shoes that the techs wear when they come to your house though.

where are the " gem pluming heating and electric on time traffic" studios located and who are the traffic reporters that work for them and what radio and telivision stations do they service... cause now i curious and confusied i still thought metro was doing it... cause i notice gem is on the citadel and cc stations

Big John Bina didn't do the traffic reports at all this week for WPRI-TV 12. It was done by Dominic Ingnizoli. Sorry if I spelled the last name wrong.

I know up until this week, Vic Edwards was actually in the old Pro-FM news studio doing traffic after Metro closed the Providence office. I am wondering if they are up at the big Gem building they own in Lincoln near North Central Airport. The would probably make sense....

The area's best traffic reports are on.....

...1030 WBZ. The traffic reports may not cover the Providence area highways except for a major traffic delay, but I am amazed at the coverage they do have, not just Boston, but southern New Hampshire, central and sometimes western Massachusetts, and Cape Cod (especially in the summer). On peak summer weekends they may even include southern Maine. And maybe it's because they cover a lot more, but I feel that the reports are more detailed on WBZ, and the local Providence reports seem to be rushed and not very detailed. Also the Rhode Island automated 511 is a joke. Mass 511, formerly Smartraveler, is a much better traffic service, where you hear taped reports from real reporters that update the reports about every 15 minutes, or when conditions change. It's a much easier and more convenient service to use if you are not listening to WBZ at home, and you want to know what traffic conditions are like in Massachusetts. They also have the same great coverage as WBZ. It's a 617 number when calling from out of state, but to call it free just call Massport at 1-800-23-LOGAN and dial 5 and 1. I like to go to the Cape in the summer, so it's nice to know have an idea what the traffic conditions will be like.

Yes, according to this link on the Gem website they are or are about to be in Lincoln:

Now we need a parody of 867-5309/Jenny geared to area traffic
