"I Don't Want To Miss a Thing" on Sunny

Yesterday afternoon I was driving along listening to Sunny and "Paco" was signing off for his shift, and played the tune "I Don't Want To Miss a Thing", a 1999 hit from Aerosmith, just prior to 2pm, while directly promoting Sunny as Orlando's station for the 60s, 70s, and 80s right over the intro of the song. What on earth would make them play a song, albeit by a band that could have several of their songs featured on the station, that was so off-format?

Maybe there's a glitch in the scheduling software & it randomly picked out a song from the Mix 105.1 library instead of Sunny's as a filler song at the end of the hour?

DJ Mo,

I personally know how the Automation Systems work at CBS and can tell you audio libraries for each station are separate.

It's technically impossible for Sunny to be pulling songs out of the Mix library.

Maybe Sunny is updating its playlist. Just because you hear "Greatest Hits from the 60's - 80's" it doesn't mean jack. Sunny in the coming years could possibly be adding 90's music in the list.

Good example is the old 101.5 The Point in Tampa. The liners were the Best of the Late 70's, 80's and Early 90's. Hence Best of the 80's and More. However as far back as even 2005 the station started adding songs from 1994-1999. However it was another 5 Years until the liners were updated and "The 90's" were finally mentioned in the liners.

they played it today again at 4:14 am or so.

So are they playing hits from the 90's now? If so, how about some Janet Jackson?

Playing it once was a big mistake....playing it twice is just plain stupid.

Unless Rick Stacey is subtlety adding 90s music to the mix in an effort to lower the target demo age.

FWIW, WOCL has been playing Black Velvet by Alannah Myles which entered the charts in February, 1990 since the oldies......sorry classic hits format returned.

They played "Poison" by Bell Biv Devoe last Saturday... That's probably 1989, but the album was released in 1990.
It's a matter of time before we hear "Ice Ice Baby" or "U Can't Touch This".
That's when I'll be jumping for joy & doing the running man.

Heard Ton Locs "Wild Thing". Then again it was released in 1989 technically.

Ah-ha!
Vanilla Ice "Ice Ice Baby" was played Saturday night at 11:44pm on 105.9 Sunny FM.
Go white boy, go white boy, go! :D

Hello. I heard baby got back on saturday nights on sunny. Here is something else that happened on sunny last night. They were playing some techno remake of total eclipse of the heart. I think it was from 95. I had to double check my radio to make sure i was not listening to another station but it was in fact 105.9.

Throw in the 90's Rick! Sunny still sounds great, wonder how many songs are in their entire on-air library? Just when I think 400-600 songs, I hear a tune I never heard before, love it. Finally a station that takes calculated risks and still sounds superb.

Congrats Sunny!

I do have to admit, that techno song sounded superb last night. I always enjoyed that version for some reason. 105.9 sounds excelent over all. One of the better sounding comercial stations in this market. Both presentation and audio quality.

The techno remake of "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" is probably by Nikki French, and that was released in the mid-90's.
I actually heard this remake before the original 80's version.
Sunny probably meant to play the 80's version instead.
Oopsy?

Sunny continurs to impress me, and I can honestly say I enjoy listening to them more than I have enjoyed a station in years. The imaging is tight and fresh, and seems to be updated weekly. Each jock is enjoyable to listen to, not a single one of them is a linercard robo jock. They each have a unique personality that really shines for the format, and the listener interaction is something I havent heard in years. Even the weekend guy "Beach Man" has his own style that differs from the weekday guys, but still sounds great and fits the format. I wish they had live nights, but Spyder pumped in from NYC sounds good and a million times better than Clear Channel Premium Choice garbage. Sunny is personality driven radio. I had a PD who always said that "it's a show, not a shift. If you want a shift, go to Burger King"... so many stations are voicetracked crap...it's so nice to hear a station that focuses on personality and good imaging, but also doesn't sound like it is stuck in the 80s. The music rotation is great too, but its the personality that keeps me listening to Sunny.

And I love that they picked up the old 70s AT40 with Casey Kasem for Sunday morning!

I love Sunny FM myself, what a great sounding radio station. The people on the station are very energetic and the presentation is phenomenal. I also like the fact that the stations keeps and upbeat edge to their music. Not the white bread, tired out "Classic Hits" you hear on Clear Channel and especially Cox stations. They play older music from the 60's and 70's but are not afraid to play good 80's and even 90's tracks.

Heard Devo's "Whip It" followed by "In the Midnight Hour" by Wilson Pickett. While shortly after I heard "Love Shack" by The B-52's followed by "Boogie Wonderland' by Earth, Wind and Fire.
