I'm angry because KJTV AM 950 is not being properly monitored. Today, the station had lots of potential to do things right, and everything went wrong. This morning, Glenn Beck was supposed to start, and instead, there was dead air for 5 minutes.
At noon, they were supposed to be simulating a special live report from Fox34, but instead, it was botched in the beginning, as the local news insert ran over Jeff Klotzman.
And these are just today's screw ups, it's a daily thing.
Is this the station that Kay Boren, Mike Stevens, Chuck Hinze and I built? I think not!
So I'll bet you're thinking this is going to be another one of those "bash the owner" type of emails.
WRONG! NOT THIS TIME!
You know, you can only blame the boss so many times. But at some point, you have to look in the mirror. Guys, you can throw all the money in the world at a radio station, but in the end, it's the human hands that make a difference. IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW EXPENSIVE THE EQUIPMENT IS, IF YOU DON'T DO YOUR JOB TO RUN IT PROPERLY IT WILL SOUND LIKE GARBAGE, REGARDLESS!!!!!! Is it training? Is there not a PD watching over the kids running the board?
My own guess is that it's a little bit of both. Let this be a message to Patrick and all the other guys running the board: If you love radio enough to work in it, you need to watch what you are doing! You need to keep a constant ear on the station! IF YOU ARE TOO BUSY WITH SCHOOL OR OTHER PRIORITIES TO CONCENTRATE ON YOUR STATION DUTIES, YOU SHOULD QUITE OR BE TERMINATED! When I worked there, I made mistakes, no doubt, but I spent 24 HOURS A DAY WORRYING ABOUT HOW THE STATION SOUNDED WHEN I WASN'T THERE! Sometimes, I'd even keep my clock radio on overnight and check in to see if the automation was running. If it wasn't, I was in the studio at 2 AM in the morning fixing it.
And these were the days before Charley Jones was syndicated on the station.
Really, working that board and touching that playlist are a PRIVELEDGE! If you are lucky enough to be allowed a card and a password into the studio, you need to treat that place like it's your own personal Ipod, or Windows Media Player, or whatever you use to play music on your computer.
So I am writing this with the conviction that you guys around the 950 studio are reading this board. I don't want to hear lip, I don't want to hear excuses of "we are under staffed, low paid, etc." If you like radio, it shouldn't matter. I want everyone there to read this. I don't want to read any excuses on this board, and I want this posted on the walls of KJTV AM 950, because you are embarrassing those of us who worked hard to get that station on the air!
