YEAH ITS ME,, THE Z MORNING ZOO DEEJAY...BACK IN ACTION IN ATLANTA..

SCOTT

I was shocked that legendary air personality and True Oldies 106.7 VP of Programming personally responded to my e-mail.

It reminded me of 1983, when I wrote a fan letter to the new afternoon air personality of WNBC AM Radio. A few days letter, I received an autographed photo and a handwritten thank-you note...from Howard Stern!

Of the legendary air personalities, who is the nicest that you've met or corresponded with?

I emailed him the day the news broke and received a response within 20 minutes. Very nice and cordial fellow.

It has to be Southside Steve. I was dating an extremely hot girl for a while and we met him out at the Crazy Horse one night. Well, I ended up drinking way too much and took a cab home and Steve was nice enough to take care of my girl the rest of the night. She seemed really happy for weeks after meeting him. That will always mean a lot to me.

The nicest and biggest would be Rick Dees. Personal e-mails and he sent me a box of goodies when I asked him for a pic. When I wrote to thank him, he wrote back again.

Locally it would be Steve McCoy, hands down, although I've encountered many jocks and have only been unimpressed by one (who shall remain nameless).

lewis and matt of 99x were very cool the times i saw them out at events and they r funny as hell.
and my gf drug me to a carnival q100 had. we met mellissa frm their morning show. i didnt know who she was but she was very cool 2 my gf and she didnt seem annoyed by every1 talking to her.

I take care of Rick's studio on his farm here in Kentucky. He is an awesome guy. Watched him leave a $100 tip for the waitress after lunch one afternoon. It would be a toss-up between him and Vince Gill for me as to the nicest celebrity I have met.

Bclark....I would have to agree with you that
without a doubt,Steve McCoy is perhaps the kindest
person not only to people he doesn't know. But the stories
of how he's helped a number of people in the Biz are becoming
kinda legendary. I happen to once witness him helping a direct competitor
after they bashed him on their air for years....but fell on hard times later.

It's a tossup for me. Through writing letters as a kid I was invited up to "Eagle 106" in Philly by then PD Brian Phillips. My friend and I got to spend the whole morning with John Lander and the Nut Hut. I met the whole gang, John Lander, Danny Bonaduce, Patti Steele, and this guy named Elliott...lol. They let us participate all morning. They even had a huge breakfast buffet. A few years later my friend was invited up to WPLJ in NYC where we met Scott & Todd, as well as Elliott again. All very nice people who allowed us to mill about well into the morning after the show.

Good thing you left him nameless you don;t want to be sued.

Most people I ever met who had a real career were nice. Ian Punnett let me sit at the WGST table with him when he was doing a remote, and even offered to buy my lunch! Lex Staley once wrote to compliment me on the aircheck collection I had posted on the Internet at the time. Eric Von Haessler remembered me by name months after I initially met him. Larry Wachs even wrote a nice note of encouragement once. He later called me a vagina after I posted something about Ann Coulter on his blog, but I prefer to think of the former memory rather than the latter.

The only people who have harsh attitudes are small market people who are going nowhere.

A "personalized" email huh? Are you sure it wasn't a form one?

I received a nice email from Leslie Fram just after the demise of 99X. She stopped short of endorsing me for PD at Dave. Last year totally out of the blue, Mara Davis sent me a note saying how much she appreciated all the kind things I say about her on this board. Then she said that neither she, nor anyone even remotely connected with radio in anyway ever reads this board.

The worst one was a lawsuit from Steven Duane Barnes who sued me when I mentioned his name on Radio-Info.

Speaking of Barnes, I heard his voice on a new Comcast spot.

I once wrote to Cousin Brucie (Bruce Morrow) in the mid '80's when he was working at WCBS-FM. I had just finished reading his autobiography and wanted to tell him how much he was an inspiration to me for getting into radio. He wrote me a very nice, and rather long letter. I was so elated. I still have the letter.

never met him but i give props to larry wachs cuz even tho i been talking trash bout his show for months , he wasnt ever a dick back to me. couldnt have blamed him if he had but its cool hes 1 of the few on here that didnt.

even tho i still think trg suck and im still pissed 99x is gone. :p

maybe when neil millman becomes pd of dave he can make it alt and bring back leslie and 99X and everythng be cool again.

Long time reader, first (maybe second, been awhile) poster.

I got to meet the whole morning crew at Star years back when they broadcast the announcement for the 1996 Olympics. They asked on air the next morning if anyone had caught it on tape. I called, got through (!) and announced that I did get a good recording.

That following week I went down to the station, met Steve McCoy and Rob Stadler. Both were very friendly and personable. I got a tour of the station and handed my cassette over. After about a week, I also got to go by and get my tape back.

I still have that tape! I need to record it to digital and make a CD of it.

I also got to meet Willard a very long time ago at one of their remote events at Tower many years ago. Also a great guy.

Keeping this to local radio personalities, before Fox 97 switched over to all oldies, I used to call Mark Bell and we'd converse back and forth. He even mailed me a recent issue of Billboard magazine because I'd ask him where certain songs were on the charts (thank goodness for the internet now). He seemed to be a genuinely nice guy who would know my name when I would call. Steve Craig was another class act who would shoot back an e-mail from time to time including after his dismissal at 99X.

There are others here in North Georgia who will give you the time of day if you call them up or e-mail them: Bill Maine, Joel Williams, Jay Andrews, & Kris Harris.

What's wrong with me? I forgot to mention the nicest radio guy of all: our own Tim Rhodes, who actually took time to listen to my demos and give me constructive criticism. No one else took the time to do that, but Tim Rhodes did. Great guy.

Why no mention about Bert Weiss? I have seen some pretty positive and really negative things said. I have never
met him or talked to him, but I was pretty surprised by some of the comments out there. No malice meant by
my question.
