I was at Belmar, NJ today, and the tropo was very strong all day. I managed to pick up translators and even a pirate station. If you had your iPod FM modulator on today, I probably would have heard that too! The 10 watt translator on 96.5 was coming in like a local 80 miles away, and I know that translator's signal barely makes it 5 miles.
The low power stations disappeared a few blocks from the beach, but the full power stations made it 30+ miles inland. I can't believe how a little translator signal can make it 80 miles over the water and then not make it a half mile over land. After sunset, I was able to get the RI and Massachusetts stations.
