I got WOAI here in LA

I was driving throughout Los Angeles, I went to AM 1200 on my car and I noticed I got a very weak signal of WOAI out of San Antonio - I noticed they were airing the Spurs game from last night.

Given your distance from San Antonio (1,300 miles or so?) plus how crowded all frequencies are nowadays, I'd say that's a nice catch. We have trouble getting WOAI in Ohio nowadays ... always used to be there.

I barely get it in Indiana anymore,, always used to,, either that, or back in the 90s I could get Ottawa Energy 1200 CHR Music,,, its just a mess of slop now, good catch, especially in a metro city.

Dittos on the Indiana assessment. There was a time when 1200 at night was WOAI or nothing. That's no longer the case. Going back even further, there was a time when it was KSL on 1160 here at night. Those days are really really gone.

Off topic, but on the drive to & from Houston, 1160/WYLL had a strong sunset signal in TN, MS & LA.

Back in the day, once WJJD signed off, KSL had a very strong signal in Indy.

I lived/DXed in Cincinnati in the mid-late 60's & while I never saw a very strong signal from KSL, it was there most every night...weak but readable on a 100' long wire & an old Zenith console radio with a "tuning eye" S meter tube. I miss those days of 'clear' clear channels & FM stations that signed off by midnight...'twas a time custom made for DX.

On 2/18/10 from 0835-0845UTC (0235-0245CDT) I received KNX 1070AM from LA, with a very clear and strong signal. I was using my 10 year old RS DX-398. After 0245CDT, KNX was overpowered by some mexican station blasting out from somewhere in Cuahuila state. I am usually able to get 1070 KNX briefly only during sunset in early fall and spring.

Where are you located?

While living out in Orange County CA back in the late 90's, I picked up WOAI very well while driving down the 5 Freeway one evening near Irvine and was listening to a play-by-play of a Spurs Basketball Game. Their nighttime signal is almost coast-to-coast, since I get them very clearly here in the Atlanta area at night.

I get WOAI pretty well most nights from the NW Chicago suburbs. Now that WRTO has powered up a bit a night, I have to null them out to get WOAI - but they're still in most nights. Also got them once at night from the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica. About them being coast-to-coast, though I can't confirm that - I'd say that it's quite possible.

WOAI always has a great signal at night here in Tampa.

It's one of those frequencies that's free of all the annoying foreign interference too.

Reminds me of how WLS and others I can hardly hear anymore used to be.

I am located in near dowtown San Antonio, Texas, inside a single family wooden structure with a metal roof.
