I got WPRB 103.3 right under the Empire State Building!

I was in the city recently. I noticed that KTU was not spewing out IBUZ for some reason. I tuned to 103.3 (actually 103.25) and I heard WPRB in one spot, with a lot of interference from KTU. I was right under the Empire State Building at that time.

I think the Empire State Building attenuated the stations from the antenna at the top enough so that my radio didn't overload in that one spot. About a block away, the overloading came back and it was hard to get the NYC stations themselves.<P ID="signature">______________

Since the radiation from the antennae doesn't go down, this is normal. Ask anyone who used to work in One World Trade Center about trying to pick up TV there.

yes, it's 4 times square, at the conde nast building.

No..KTU's main is on the master antenna at the Empire State Building.
They have an aux (along with the other CC stations) at 4TS. The 4TS aux was their main for a while after 9/11, but the plans were immediately put into place to get themselves on the ESB master. PAT-FM is now on the ESB as well. Both have been on ESB for a couple of years now.

are you saying all the nyc radio stations transmit HD from the empire state building...
how can all the stations possible transmit from that builing without killing each other?
I remeber during the black-out I could get WCCC 106.9 hartford Ct clear on my walkmen in greenwich which is un-heard of...

We all get along very nicely. No killing involved. Just had a nice chat with an engineer from FOX 5 in the elevator the other day, in fact.

In all seriousness -- there are two antenna systems on the tower for FM. One of them has 16 stations on it and the other has three stations on it. There's a room full of filtering/combining equipment for each antenna system that keeps the signals from mixing together and causing trouble.

Not everyone runs HD. 8 out of the 16 on the main master antenna system run HD. All three on the other system run HD.

Is there any particular reason why 95.5, 97.1, and 101.1 stay on the mini-master? You'd think with the space limitations up on the mast, they'd try to engineer 95.5, 97.1, and 101.1 into the ERI.
