I guess VH is dead...

Have all our friends left this board for greener
formats???

Well, its almost been a year since Jack happened to
Nashville. At least one city is still diggin' it...

Sorry the rest of America has given up on Jack. I blame
this soley on Oldiescat. He should not have given in to
the beer bitter faced beer naysayers (or however you say
it.) I still like Jack. In fact, it's better than ever
in Music City, even if we aren't NY or Chicago....

Someone --- talk to me --- or at least yell at 'Cat! :)

----

There, I hope this stirs up a little flak on this
board.

Flak? Nah.

How u doin'? Things are improving here in NYC, Brian Thomas, now in the PD chair at WCBS-FM is adjusting the music toward sounding like a JACK station.

John Sebastian is steering JACK-FM in Chicago back onto the blacktop with some very good trend numbers.

JACK-FM in Boss Angeles is one of the top billers in the country and is the top English-speaking FM in LA 25-54.

Nashville continues to shine, now 1 year plus into the format. South Central's doing a great job. (Doesn't hurt that Garry Wall lives in town either).

Agreed! I didn't mean to slight KKJJ (I love that the logo of their calls are playing cards - two pair!) They are doing very well.

Funny that The Peak in Phoenix does well, but MAX in San Francisco (both owned by Bonneville) has the ratings of a Part-15 station. I seem to think it is the dial position since no format has done well on there.

Is Max a full market signal?

Yes, it is. If I recall correctly, the frequency was a successful classical station many years ago, but since Bonneville took over, it's been a mess. In the last ten years, there was CHR "Z-95.7", classic hits "The Drive" (cloning WDRV Chicago), country "The Bear", and now variety hits "MAX".

You'd wonder, if CBS wasn't beaten to the format in San Francisco (and Boston, for that matter), would the format be faring better?

Ah, the stories...never mind...I'll wait for the movie.

Anyway, I forgot to give a shoutout to the Backyard bunch down in Jackson, Miss. at WJKK 94.7 JACK-FM. Still rolling their own and with the new PD pulling into 6th with a 3.8 (behind a Gospel, Urban, two countries & an urban AC!)

It is a possibility, but it depends on how the CBS VH stations are programmed and how Bonneville programs their VH stations. As said above, the Peak is doing well in Phoenix, but Bonneville's VH station in San Fran isn't doing well. Are the Bonneville VH stations programmed similarily? How does Max sound in San Francisco? Is it similar to the Peak?

Obviously how the station is programmed is a factor, but maybe San Francisco isn't just Variety Hits friendly.

Thoughts?

i wouldn't say that...i have been laughing my head off over here, remembering on the seattle boards almost a year ago that the jack station in seattle (well, even charlie in portland) wouldn't last a year...give it 6 months. well, BOTH stations are coming up on their 1 year birthdays and both are doing well in the ratings (at least the 12+).

VH

I think you're attempting (and failing miserably) to be funny (LOL).
But VH is thriving in many markets. They include:

Phoenix
St Louis
Nashville
Seattle
Las Vegas
Louisville
Indianapolis
Seattle
Minn-St Paul
Los Angeles
Baltimore
Portland
Milwaukee
(and a bunch of medium/smaller markets)

Mixed stories in:
Dallas
Chicago
San Diego
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh (too early)
Detroit
Atlanta
Denver (rimshot signal- doing well in home market of Ft Collins)
(and a number of other smaller/med markets)

The dog:
NYC

Your attempt AT SPELLING is as bad as my humor. Glad we woke this place up.
Rock on, bro.

I was wondering when you gonna give us props. The third Jack station in America is chugging along fine. Don Wayne has the station sounding pretty good. BTW, as a word of caution, we can't post station ratings. <P ID="signature">______________

Re: Max

Actually, you can. They'll get deleted though.
IF you have an old account lying around (from the days of being able to register through a yahoo email), then visit your local library and post away from pc to pc til' all the ip adresses and your account are banned from this site! (be sure to post, and repost when postings are deleted)

Then visit your pc at home, using your current account to post anything but ratings. RI will never know it was you!...and you won't be banned!
(It's supposed to be too much work...that's why it can be done!)

Re: Max

Just out of curiosity (and slightly off topic), how come there isn't a "MACK FM" yet?

I don't know where you get your info but Jack is NOT doing well in Indianapolis.

They've been doing well all along. What their latest 25-54 numbers?

MAx is short for Maximum...good one though!

Indy

Really? You mean #5 25-54 is "not doing well"? And, the fact their revenue is way up since the flip- what criteria are YOU using that says they're not doing well?

Indianapolis

Top 5. Moron is confusing "I don't get it so I don't like it" with what actual Indy radio listeners are telling Arbitron.
