I hate when I find out too late about good DX

In Newington CT, I was in my car with my mother tuning around the dial tonight just after 6pm when I noticed at 96.3 there was a station coming in where I digital noise from WTIC-FM should be. I thought nothing of it at the time other than the Digital must have been down, but then when she got to 98.1 and I heard "Eddie Money - Two Tiockets to Paradise", instead of a very weak country station (Cat Country out of R.I.) I became suspicious, but just before the song ended she changed the station before I could find out why they were playing such a song out of format (or so I thought).

Nothing ever comes in at 100.1 in this area and yet there was something and it said Dixie ... and faded out quickly to another station and that lasted about 2 seconds and then there was another one and then back and then off to another one and then back and it was radio dyslexia between what I figurwed to be about 6 or more different stations all fighting to be heard. At one point I heard a station say "for central Alabama traffic ..." and fade. A lookup on google shows the 100.1 as WDXX - Dixie 100 Selma, AL. I also heard some mentions of "the ATL" and Georgia, and at one point on 98.1 I heard mention of "US 80", not sure where that one was from.

I had to leave the car and I was hoping this condition would still be open when I got back, but not even half an hour later and it was all gone, at least I got 5 minutes DX time in tonight.

I'm glad you posted this because the Sporadic E map site of the US that I always check on has been blank for almost 2 days now.

Maybe it's just not updating for some reason and I've been checking things the old fashioned way listening to FM on my radio as much as I can to see if there's E skip but nothing from here in Tampa.

Had an opening here in Gainesville, FL around 1820 last night. Picked up a station out of Montreal.

Which station/frequency was it? Montreal is fringe/tropo for me, with semi regular visits from a number of them.

You could try doing some unattended DX recording. I picked up a little Sony recorder thats made for recording meetings, etc and will record for many hours to MP3. It can record from a line input and attach to your computer with USB. All you have to do then is open the audio with a program that will analyze it like Audacity. You'll see spikes in the audio if something was recorded, otherwise static is pretty flat line. I was skeptical at first but even with an indoor antenna attached it gets a few stations when there are ES openings and I'm gone.

Last nights opening seemed to stay pretty much near Orlando for me. I'm near Watertown, NY. I was able to get WWKA to lock in HD for several seconds and many other stations throughout the area in analog. But I was home for this event so it was a lot easier to DX.
