I have a bone to pick with ESPN

Well ladies and gents, I want to vent a little bit with you and of course, this is a forum and my discussion is opened to those who want to vent as well. The thing is that I am from Miami, FL, born and raised, and as a sports fan I would like my local teams to have a little bit of exposure like let's say, Yankees and Red Sox do night in, night out. The Florida Marlins who NO ONE expected them to make a good run this year have been in first place for over 40 something days now and ESPN does not really care talking about them.

For example when D'Backs pitcher Brandon Webb lost his first game to them (9-0), their headline was something like "Webb loses one" and even today on "Pardon the Interruption" I was waiting for Kornheiser who was talking about the Mets said "They had the meeting with Randolph but in turn lost the game" and I was like "lost the game to who?" of course, right now they have the series with the Marlins. You know and it really bothers me that the Marlins who is a young team, hungry for a title and having fun out there on the field and plus the LOWEST payroll in baseball and they practically have the last highlight, here they are (ESPN) talking about the last place Yankees (sorry Yanks fans) and ESPN never talked about Florida when they were in last place, I mean, if it was the Miami Heat or the Dolphins, I'd understand, but come on, any of you people with common sense, have to agree with me. If you have a bone to pick with your favorite team, you can vent it here as well, just that, like Peter Griffin said lol, "it really grinds my gears" jaja. ::)

I think ESPN stands for "Eastern Seaboard Partisan Network." For the most part, their priorities have always been NYC and Boston. Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Pats, Giants, Jets, Celtics (I don't think anyone cares about the Knicks anymore).

Plus the bones thrown to the Dodgers & Lakers to keep the corporate bosses at LA-based Disney happy. ;D

I've heard Colin Cowherd mention on his ESPN Radio show that they even admit that, outside of college football (which has a minimal presence in the northeast compared to the rest of the country), they favor what they personally are familiar with. Since they're based in Bristol CT, guess what that is.

Maybe if the Marlins could draw more than 8,000 fans a night to their own games people would take them more seriously. Teams like the Yankees and Red Sox have a national following and are from two large markets so of course they are going to get the most exposure. I doubt there are many Marlins fans outside of Miami, let alone Florida. I was in West Palm Beach a few weeks ago and did not see one Marlins shirt or hat the entire 5 days I was there, but saw many Yankees and Red Sox caps during my trip.

KEITHE4? I LOVE your version of "ESPN"! It's quite true though! I live just two towns east of there in New Britain (CT) and can definitely say "Yes!". They used to make cheap jokes about the Hartford Whalers almost every night, making loose references to "The Mall" and what not! To briefly explain to our national audience, the old Hartford Civic Center, now the XL Center, used to have a 3-level shopping mall attached to it. It actually did quite well when it opened until the mid-to-late 1980s. What do you get when WestFarms Mall on the West Hartford/Farmington town line (hence the name) got a stronger footing, added with the Buckland Hills Mall in Manchester (which opened in 1990) and the recession in the early 1990s? Death to the old Civic Center! Today, the arena is intact, the mall has been torn down and replaced with a 21-story luxury apartment building. That's progress! :p

Watch FSN Final Score and support Versus. Maybe if ESPN gets real competition they won't shaft everywhere that isn't NY or Boston or LA or maybe just enough Chicago that comes out of their Chicago people like Wilbon.

My long tiime question about ESPN is can it really be a good thing to have one entity yeild so much power over the world of sports? If they ever bribe the Masters off of CBS it will surely be the end time.
