I Have A Curious Question!!!

I am just curious about something that I have wondering for quite a while, that’s if anyone on this board have any answers to my curious question! I know for fact that the city of Chicago has a tremendous huge amount of Middle Eastern residents living in the city and the metropolitan area.

I was wondering out of all of the ethnic radio stations we have in Chicago and the metropolitan area,
(I just only know a few ethnic stations) I was wondering if there’s any ethnic radio stations that is a full time Islamic format or any ethnic stations that has any Islamic programming?

I know a few friends at work who are Middle Eastern and they had ask me this question since they kind of call me the radio expert at work….

Does anyone have any ideas or know of any???…

Thank you very much

I don't know if they do, Colonel, but they should now more than ever. I believe the largest Arab/Persian community is up in Detroit and I don't know if they have an outlet there either, or anywhere in the nation for that matter. They MIGHT have broadcasts online, however, as I recall reading somewhere some time ago. Good question. PS: Love your chicken.

Colonel makes a good point. There are polish shows on the brokered stations, ect. I have not yet heard of a "Mid-East" station or even show...anywhere...

Wonder if that kinda station would eat in WBEZ's cab driver domination?

There's one in LA... I forget the calls, though.

Um... That's Colonel Sanders. Colonel Parker was Elvis's manager. I, Colonel Mustard, am from the popular board game "Clue". Contrary to popular belief, it is not I but Professor Plum with the blood on his hands.

I too find it odd that there is nothing on the radio for those of Middle Eastern descent. I would guess that the population around Chicago is big enough.

Hey! what about that weird so called pirate radio station
thats on FM 89.1? It's the one that I think the FCC may had
already aproved? The one with a tinny horrible sound that the
people on this board call it Hindu music! Is that Middle Eastern?
Isn't it???...

It's not a pirate... I don't think anyway... There is a translator on 89.1 in Mt. Prospect, IL. Well... At least there used to be or will be or something...

, produced a deleted callsign of DW207BJ. W207BJ was a translator that <a target="_blank" href=http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/app_det.pl?Application_id=285347>had a CP issued for it on 12/15/99 for 89.3 (or Channel 207), but 2/11/03. Since then, they've had 2 minor chages accepted, had 2 license to covers (1 for 89.1, 1 for 89.3) dismissed, had their <a target="_blank" href=http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/app_det.pl?Application_id=1091892> renewal accepted for filing 10/20/05, was to be silent on 10/24/05, and currently <a target="_blank" href=http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/app_det.pl?Application_id=1093706> had a license to cover accepted for filing on 10/25/05.

Anyway... It looks like, at least according to the attachment to their renewal, that the main problem with the station has been that listeners of WNUR have objected to original CP. The document is a good read, btw.

> people on this board call it Hindu music! Is that Middle
> Eastern?

Straight from the text of that attachment in the renewal:

BMI has operated the Station since February of 2003. The Station provides South
Asian Indian educational and entertainment programming to listeners in and around the
Chicago, Illinois area. The Station is the only source of such programming in the
Chicago area and has a loyal audience. As such, the public interest would be served by
allowing BMI to continue to provide service through the renewal of the Station’s license.

> Isn't it???...

So... No.

<strike>By the way... Does anyone know what station it is repeating? I can't find any info from the applications on the station.</strike>

Edit: Found it... WWBM/Yates, GA.

Thank you AC for cover this issue!
However, Late yesterday afternoon I was listinge to 89.1
on my little Eton E100 shortwave radio. I can get them in
much clearer, when I fine tune them in on 89.15 instead of
89.10 on the FM band...

Thanks again AC

I guess few people thought to google up "arab radio in Chicago"

The response was Radio Islam. It's on WCEV (1450), monday through friday from 6:00 pm till 7:00 pm.
