I have to ask for a "refresh" every day

Lately, I've had to go to the XM Radio web site and ask for a "refresh" of my car radio often--sometimes once or twice a day. Otherwise, the radio reverts to channels 0 and 1 only.

My account is up-to-date. Before I get on the phone and talk to someone who will misunderstand my problem, is there anyone here who has experienced this or know what could be wrong?

Paul

Lots of folks have read this but no one has commented. Mine did the same thing every once in a while. Another reason why I dumped them

I have an Alpine AM/FM/XM/CD unit, aftermarket, in my car. If I refresh it before leaving for work, it's back to channels 0 and 1 only when I get out of work. The screen says "subscription updated." I'll say.

My car battery needs replacement, although my XM presets never go away so I don't think it's a power issue.

I would double-check your 'memory' power line on the radio and make sure it wasn't swapped with the +12V ignition/radio power feed.
I would also suggest calling Crutchfield - they would have experience with this radio too. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

A new car battery solved the problem with starting my car, but not my XM radio problem.

I finally called XM and they said they know about the problem and it affects (all or some or many) XM (not Sirius) customers. They said there's nothing wrong with my radio, that the problem would go away once they fix it, that it would take 24-48 hours to get my call serviced and that I should keep track of when the problem started happening as they would refund my money for that time.

Some of what they said made no sense. If it's a system-wide problem, why did they mention the 24-48 hours? I called a few weeks ago and the problem has still not been resolved. My service lasts for a few hours and then only channels 0 and 1 come back. You can only refresh the radio once in 24 hours from the web site; otherwise you have to call them.

This makes my subscription pretty much useless. I wonder what's really going on. I can't believe the problem is widespread and has lasted so long.

Magically, finally, my XM car radio no longer needs constant refreshing to remember I actually pay for the service. Fingers crossed that it stays that way!

"They" can only activate/deactivate/change channel service when a radio is receiving signal.
If you have service when you turn the unit off but not when you turn it back on, there is a hardware issue.
Many have canceled service, packed their radios away, and the connected power and an antenna years later and had service.

I know this thread is a few months old, but FYI:

I had the same trouble with my SKY unit. I just swapped it out with my wifes (has been deactivated), went on line and switched units in my account. No problems now for months.

I had to assume a defective unit.
