I hear a song on Wired 96.5 and nowhere else...

Earlier this summer, my girlfriend and I heard an absolutely hilarious song, My Humps by the Black-Eyed Peas, on Wired 96.5. Every time we were in the car, we'd surf the Philadelphia hip-hop stations hoping we'd hear it, but the only station I've ever heard it on is Wired. It's not just once in a while either; I've heard this song on Wired round about ten times this summer, and I'm just a casual listener to that station. I thought that was kind of odd, considering that other Black-Eyed Peas tracks from the same album can be heard on Q102 quite often. I think I've heard some Black-Eyed Peas on 100.3 The Beat as well. Is My Humps a single? Does someone important at Wired just like the song? Related question: is it common or not entirely unheard of for a PD to like an album cut that isn't a single and put it into heavy rotation?

> Is My Humps a single?

No. Wired started playing it as an album track. They were the first station in the country to put it in rotation. Rhythmic stations all over the nation have now followed Wired's lead and it's up to #28 on the Rhythmic chart. It's actually forced Q102 to put "My Humps" in medium rotation as well, even though "Don't Lie" is the official single.

Probably Jerry Clifton. He's the station's consultant and is responsible for picking a lot of the music they're playing. It was a good find by him (or whoever else decided to add it). When I first heard the album, the song really jumped out at me. I remarked to a friend that "My Humps" could be the next "Hollaback Girl". A week later Wired started playing the song.

It's not common, but it does happen, especially with a superstar artist. For instance, when the last Eminem CD came out, both Q and Wired were spinning 2 or 3 album cuts in addition to the released single. I think some of the non-singles on the last Usher album were spun too.

Thanks :) I've been wondering about that song for weeks.

Gotta give props to Ashlee, our MD for that find. I'm sure the other stations are getting crazy requests for it, (Q) they're just stubborn ;)

Have a great weekend peeps!

For what it's worth, I'm playing both records here (Southern IL). I say, if you can make it work for you in your scheduling process and it's a hit, why not play it? Even if it hasn't been pushed as a single yet...
