I hear Memphis calling me home...

Anyone remember that song from early 80s (I think)?

Any ideas where I can find it on line to download?

Or does anyone have it they can share?

I believe the song was recorded by Susan Jerome-Taylor and The Breaks. I have no idea what label distributed it, etc. Check with Shagri-La on Madison. They might be your best bet on fidning a vinyl copy. But don't get your hopes up. Perhaps some old staffers at 1960 Union may have a copy put back?
Rob?

I've always liked that song, but I never really gave it a second thought until I moved away. It was weird hearing it on FM 100 during one of my visits to Memphis. Made me a little homesick, but then I remembered, you can never go home again. Whoever said that was right! :'(

Move away from Memphis (at least outside of FM 100's coverage area), and "Memphis, I'm coming home to you" will take on a whole new meaning. Believe me, it has for me!

I would also be interested in finding "Germantown Blues" if anyone knows how or where to find that.

It was, but I think contractually they had to call the band someting else. I think it ended up being "The Shoe Section", unless my memory is failing me.

They have it on file at the station...I used it for a presentation for Entercom when they bought the stations. I might still have the disk, I'll search for it...

The late Dan Lenzini also did a song for a radio station in the late 80's.
The KIX 106 song. It was out on disc as well.

I got it on CD in the early 90s when I bought a All Request Lunch Hour CD at the Memphis Flea Market. The copyright date on the CD is 87 or 88. I would have to look at the CD to be sure. Cost me $2 for that song and a bunch of bad 60s songs.

The group is listed as The Breaks on the FM 100 CD.

I should find it and my Good Question Greatest Hits CD.

Look for some stuff by The Crime while you're at it.....This could start a whole new thread about defunct Memphis bands....

Target - "Are You Ready"

Miller Brothers - "Talk is Cheap" b/w "Freewheelin' Man"

Bonus to any of the youngsters who know what b/w means!

Target "Love That Just Won't Quit"

John Kilzer "Memory In The Making"

Eddie Floyd "Don't Tell Your Mama Where You Been"

Xavion - early 80's black group. They had a minor hit but I can't pull the title out...help.

"Eat Your Heart Out" is the only one I remember. Was it Rock 103 that gave it airtime? I have it on a 45 (Asylum records). Label says it's from the LP "Burnin' Hot."

Xavion....GREAT local band....Dexter was the lead singer and yes we did play them on Rock 103. They played Rock 103 Sunday nights at Flanigans (anyone remember those days?) numerous times. I think we sometimes forget how good the music was that came out of this city by so many great local bands back in the late 70s early 80s! If i still had a turntable I would break out all those old LPs right now cause damn I miss that music!

Rick Earwood

And long before "Creed" was a group that, when you hear them in a billboard (i.e. "coming up we have Creed") you ran covering your ears screaming "NOT THAT SONG AGAIN ARRGGHHH! ", there was "Southern Creed" with the memorable song "Firecracker", inspired (or so I have heard) by the lovely and talented Kelly Cruise (before she was Kelly Cruise). [(Can I be more "parenthetical")]
