I heard a rumor...

...that MOViN in San Francisco is changing back to Oldies on 5/16 and that CBS wants out of the MOViN business. Do I smell a flip for 107.5 in DFW next week????

TAB says movin is going to hire a ppl to do a morning show.

From AIIAccess:

CBS/Infinity Broadcasting have announced the launch of a brand new format for market #5. On May 15th, KOAI-FM 107.5 will become KHEO-FM “Hot Eighties Oldies” and the format will be All 1980’s music. Details about the air staff are still pending, according to a CBS spokesperson.

By the way...

GOTCHA! ;D ;D ;D

Oh and this just in from Allaccess:

KEOM Mesquite, TX adopts a new modern rock format that doesn't pre-date the student body by 25 years. Robert Bass was quoted" It got really boring playing most of the same songs the 30 Year old Guidance Counselor's were conceived to".

Baha!!!!

You mean 40+, since the current 30 crowd wants the 80's. :)

I can't speak for your 107.5, but I think the rumor is premature, and MOViN 99.7 here in San Francisco is...unfortunately...not going anywhere yet. The station has just gone into heavy promotion mode for a new contest, and those tiresome wriggling butt TV commercials have returned, and are in heavy rotation the past week.

I would think this is odd behavior for a station that is flipping formats in a week. More likely - they are putting some energy into raising the pitiful ratings (0.9 Winter book). If all this fails to produce results in the Spring - maybe we can expect a format change in the summer.

The deed is done and so is KIFR Free FM as KFRC is alive and well on 106.9 Classic Hits and A's Baseball. Is Dallas next? The calls change next week on 99.7 and 106.9

It's amazing what happened in San Francisco, and you've got to wonder if the master plan changed somewhere along the way or if this was the original idea. For anyone who hasn't been following this, first CBS blew up oldies on KFRC 99.7 and replaced it with Movin' (soon to have call letters KMVQ), only to return with the classic hits KFRC format on 106.9 today. That means Free FM KIFR is no more, although some of the shows will switch over to AM 1550. In other words, they're being allowed to die a slow death on the other band.

You have to ask yourself, in light of all the protests over shock jocks, did CBS decide to pull the plug on FM talk and then make up for the Movin' mistake? It looks like that's the case, since they could have killed Free FM by putting Movin' on 106.9 in the first place, and left KFRC at 99.7. Instead the listeners have to find them elsewhere now, and CBS has to spend more advertising dollars (in addition to the big bucks they're spending on the Movin' campaign).

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A BAY AREA ICON RETURNS

KFRC – CLASSIC HITS NOW ON 106.9 FM

Change Effective This Afternoon

San Francisco – May 17, 2007 – 106.9 FM is pleased to announce the return of one of the Bay Area’s best known icons, KFRC. Beginning today at approximately 4:00PM, PT, the station will feature a classic hits format including the greatest artists of the 60s, 70s and 80s such as the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elton John, Eagles, Marvin Gaye, Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Miller and WAR, to name a few.

“We’re thrilled to bring the legendary KFRC back to the Bay Area airwaves,” enthused Vice President and General Manager of the station Steve DiNardo. “This enduring music has entertained generations while remaining relevant to present day life and culture. I can’t think of better way to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love.”

The station’s new website can be found by logging onto www.kfrc.com where listeners will, among other things, be able to hear an online audio stream of the station’s music programming. Broadcasts of Oakland A’s baseball will continue to be broadcast over the air on 106.9.

In a related announcement, MOViN 99.7(formerly KFRC) will change its call letters to KMVQ effective early next week. See our 10-second-explanation.

Best question of the day.

I've been told by reliable sources the New KFRC will be mostly voice tracked. As a matter of fact Bobby Ocean was offered the job of imaging voice but he said it was the worst money he's been offered in 20 years!!! Not surprising.

These companies today just won't learn from there past mistakes. Bring back KFRC with an automated sound will not work in the 4th largest market!!! Apparently CBS is determined to screw it up in san francisco AGAIN. :'(
