I heard the Dixie Chicks on the radio!

Here in Albuquerque I was listening to 106.3 The Range and played the Dixie Chick's version of Landside...at 11:45 PM. I guess that's the only way they got away without...I only heard it because I was driving home after a very late night of work.

No more of your independant country station owners are already spinning the chicks occasionally for feelers if people are ready to accept them or not.. But for example, in my area I can catch 6 country stations, only one occasionally spins the chicks.. It's basically a mom and pop outfit and their playlists go more on phones than any consultant (as there isn't any!)

CC's WGAR in Cleveland plays the Chicks. I even heard Not Ready to Make Nice when it first came out, granted I never heard it again on WGAR, but it still counts! :) They don't play them often, but they do play them and as far as I know, never stopped.

cajun plays them. is that the station you heard them on?

Kajun 107.1 (WHMD) wasn't it... Actually was local "Quickie" (KQKI).. but haven't listened recently to find out if they are still playing them...

kqki?? oh wait i found it. 95.3. i forgot about them.

Funny...I programmed WHMD ages ago when it was a VERY pop leaning AOR and still owned by the Chauvin family.

From my perspective, the Chicks were in a place where the music was solid and public sentiment about the war was beginning to track their position. But when they started doing the press for this last project, they lashed out at a lot of the folks who might want to hear or buy the music. Country radio just reacted to what the listeners were saying on the phones about being called "stupid" by the band.

To this day, even the best of their tunes come in at the bottom of any market based research I see...

Shawn Parr and everybody else at KKGO-FM (www.GoCountry105.com) play them all the time here in LA.

Nice to have a NON-corporate owned radio station which isn't strangled by political correctness.

you're missing the real reason they're not played:
the Chicks angered a lot of listeners...and these listeners have made it know via calls and research that they do
NOT appreciate what they consider 'their' station playing the Chicks. it's not a corporate mandate...
despite what you've heard, CC NEVER sent out a memo even remotely discouraging plays of Chicks tunes...
and the rumors of a "ban" are just that...FALSE rumors from long ago. the truth behind that rumor deals with a post 911 memo from CC to PDs and MDs...simply reminding them to pay attention to lyrics in tunes that listeners might find upsetting or disturbing. that's all... giving some respect and compassion to the listeners (those CC bastards!)

now then...some of the suits at Cumulus DID make such a decree...but that's they way they play.

back to my point: stations are in a no-win...
play Chicks, and torque-off their audience
don't play Chicks, and they're corporate sell-outs (but keep their audience)

duhhhhhhhhh: not a tough choice

yea but we the listners have a choice. turn off the damn radio! john melloncamp is ok but the chicks are not. what a crock! now back to my reguraly scheduled xm programming (98 wsix is blocked btw) ;D

Amazing..........300 years later, in a country built on free speech, we are still persecuting people ,for speaking the truth.

The Chicks committed entertainment suicide after they became Millionaires. Ricky Skaggs had a song about "Don't Get Above Your Raisin'"..........guess they took the money and were "Ready To Run."
