Holy smokes! The River going holiday music?? That'll *never* happen, as they are one of the biggest billers and ratings fetchers in the group. Kiss-FM? Nope... they are moving too strong against FLY. That would be formattic suicide.
The most compatable formats with a temporary flip to holiday music are AC and Oldies, so it's really a no-brainer to use TRY-FM for this. And don't expect to fall back on Magic too much, they'll undoubtedly inject plenty of holiday music into their playlists as well (along with B).
Now if Ric Mitchell would only take all the stiffs (and 'Moon' leftovers) out of WVKZ's playlists, then they might stand a chance of being a listenable oldies station... although it would be nice to hear an actual live voice on 1240 every now and again.

There are some alternatives for getting our oldies fix, depending on where you live:
From Albany on south - there's WZCR 93.5 and WBPM 92.9, the later being the more listenable of the two. Cool 92.9 carries Tom Kent's show as well. WRIP 97.9 is AC, but does plenty of 70's and 80's gold tracks, esp. on the weekends. Saturday Nights, the station goes full-on oldies.
Mohawk Valley - WIZR 930 does a MOR format similar to Magic (off the bird), WENT 1340 plays some classic hits, WFNY 1440 is a pot-luck station - you never know what'll get played next, WCSS does AC with some gold too, albeit on the softer side, and if you can get 'em - WXUR 92.7 out of Herkimer has been banging out the oldies for years now.
North Country - It goes without saying: WCKM is your "One & Oldies station". WNYV 94.1 is one to check as well, they'll mix in some oldies from tiem to time.
Albany on east - WMNB 100.1 and WUPE 95.9 offer up oldies as Whoopee FM. Decent playlists, similar programming highlights to WTRY (Top 5 at 5, 70's at 7, etc..). You can usually hear at least one of the channels in most spots around the area.
