I Just Can't Listen Any More

I tried, I really, really tried to listen to IQ106.9 weekday mornings, It's back to KYW, if I want to avoid the noise my trusty HD radio on WIP 94.1 HD2
works fine for me.

I'll get slammed for this, but I have no problems with Mr. Gardner but I can't take Mente. He may have been great as a news reader on NBC10 and CBS3
and I would be fine if he read the news on IQ106.1 but no more commentary, I can't reach for the button fast enough to change the station!

I apologise to Larry Mente in advance, because I can't take it any more!

They need to decide what they want the morning show to be when it grows up. A talk station ala 1210 or 770 or a news station ala KYW or 880. Can't be both, doesn't work.

WWIQ is probably one of the most disorganized radio stations that I have ever heard. You would think that it was a 250 watt little station located in some small town. I just heard the hourly station ID and they said the time was 11 pm when it was really 10 pm. I mean a 36,000 watt fm station in a major market should at least have the right time on their station ID. I guess just about eveything is automated on that station to save from paying live people ....This station will never make it in its present form...Larry would be fine just reading the news on the hour and AL would be better doing a 3 hour talk show featuring local issues from 3 to 7 pm...drive time..like someone stated, they have to make up their mind whether they want to be an all news station or a talk station, but in either case they will have to hire live folks to run the station...We cant just have a one man show of AL Gardner being the chief, cook, and bottle washer..he needs help to run this station properly,if you are going to do it right..but it looks like they dont want to spend the money,at least at this time, to hire the folks that they really need....otherwise he could continue to run the station in its present form and wind up at the bottom of the ratings even below WHAT....Come on AL,you have to spend money to make money...and you cant have a news or talk station that is all automated...all the time...and giving out the wrong time on the hourly station ID....that wont work for people who are on a tight schedule in the AM and need to know the correct time...although this station might work in Petspaw,Wisconsin...if there is such a place....population 4 people and some cows and pigs...I cant believe that they bought this station thinking that they could get away with such an awful format......with all syndicated programming both day and night and they talk about the CBS stations...are you kidding me...this station sounds like an amateur radio station...maybe instead of the present morning show they could go all paid programming from 6 to 9 AM selling brooms, how to become a millionaire books, cash flow programs,Serta mattresses, and the like in 30 minute segments...that would probably get better ratings and you could still give the wrong time on the hourly station IDs and nobody would even care.....I dont think that WWIQ has any of the CBS stations shaking in their boots...although CBS management as well as their employees may be getting a good laugh continuously at those pot shots against CBS radio stations... lets get real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do listen on weekends, shows about money home improvement and legal talk, but again everything being automated almost every Sunday morning between 9 and 11 AM there are long periods of dead air! There is no excuse for this, automated or not.

WNTP, totally automated, was like this for awhile when they first went to all-syndicated secular talk. Hours of dead air, wrong programs airing, 3 hours of a satellite test channel repeating a loop airing in place of Mark Levin - two nights in a row! Clearly adjustments had to be made and apparently no one was monitoring the station. They rarely have issues now. Even the webstream is clean sounding and only occasionally features dead air at breaks when the 990 signal is running brokered sports.

IQ will eventually get the kinks worked out (should've already). But nothing short of a lobotomy is going to save that morning show. Get a newsreader or two and play it straight with the extended traffic on the 1s. They can pipe it in from NYC if they can't find/afford the appropriate talent here.
