I know all the stations do this but...

...why play a song so sped up that it sounds bad like WNCI did today. They played "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice and it was sped up so fast it just didn't sound good! I know in the past a lot of stations had their CD players sped up by 2%, but this sounded like it was already recorded in at the 2% and then had the computer speed it up again! Come on Andy, if it sounds bad sped up that bad, make the computer slow it down a bit! I swear radio people are becoming lazy!

Careless, more likely. Most radio stations songs are not recorded at the local station, they normally come from a corporate programmer, or library. This is especially true in stations that use voicetracking.

So, what normally happens...the person who recorded the origional sone, though it was draggy, and sped it up. The local station, wanting to sound more up than their competition, told their automation system to speed them up to.. so you und up with 4 or 5% speed, rather than the two they expected.

I always hated pitch controls on automation systems!!!
